Hi,

I'm new here and have a (probably) daft question to ask. We have bought a Vango Aspen 700, which we took for a trial pitch yesterday. Which was pretty much the worst way to spend a windy Sunday but hey ho we got there in the end. Almost!

The instructions for this tent are terrible as some of you know. I've read all the reviews and searched for and read the forum posts about it but we cannot figure out one thing...

What are the blue hook things for at the end of the straps around the bottom of the tent?

My OH is not the most practically minded person and he really struggled getting this beast up, he has never put any tent up before so couldn't even visualise the way it was going to work out.

The reviews of this tent make me feel we will love it once we get to grips with it so I hope it is worth persevering with.

Grateful for any advice :-)

Nicola

Have look HERE at the You Tube vid for erecting the tent.

The D shaped rings ? If so, you peg the bottom of the tent out through those.

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it

I think you are referring to the fly sheet tensioneers. If so, they hook into the ring, of the ring and pin system. The you tube film already mentioned shows this. It's a good tent, and worth the effort to errect. Just had a week away in my wifes. Having said this, I prefer canvas/cotton, but if not, it would be my tent of chioce. Happy camping

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I have seen the video and still can't work it out

The hooks look like this:,
along the bottom of the outer fly sheet.

I feel so stupid and know it's probably something simple

Although not exactly the same, (mine don't have the retaining spring fitted, just the hook part), the hook clips onto the same metal ring that  the little metal pin is on. This holds the fly sheet down. They should be held with an adjustable strap, with a plastic buckle/slider if this is the same as mine.

edit

Just reading back my post, and it occured to me, another way to check re clips. The tent has ten leg poles, these have a pin inserted into them at the bottom. This pin is attatched to a metal ring, that's what the clips fit to. So if we are talking about the same parts, you should have ten of these spring clips. Fingers crossed this helps.

Thanks very much for your replies they are very much appreciated!

I thinkwe know what we are doing now reading what you say ^^. We can't test it out because it is too big for our garden - d'oh! We took it to our boys school field on Sunday. Not funny being watching by kids and dog walkers, trying to row but not wanting everyone to hear us!

We are going to Llanberis on Friday ( which is forecast rain) so I may be posting from my phone

Well we managed it! Camped at Llanberis over the weekend. friday was glorious sunshine, got the tent up no bother.
Sunday it rained and rained and rained and we had to pack it up all wet we also had a bit of a do with the red roof poles, a bit tricky to get them out in one piece

Tent stood proud all weekend and kept us all warm and dry. Fabulous!

Just got to to get a bit quicker at putting it up now

Thanks for all your help with the clips, it become obvious once you know what you are doing.
