I'm brand new to this! we' ve just bought a second hand frame tent off ebay - a Cabanon Elody - and our son picked it up for us so we've not seen it put up or anything! Thanks to reading bits of info off this site we gather that you lay the poles down first, stand it up on the first set of poles, hang the sleeping bit and roof linings then stand it up to full height. Does this sound ok? and does anyone have any advice for us virgin campers (in our forties lol) we'd be grateful for any help.

assemble the frame, but leave the it on its knee's(the last section of upright poles at right angles to the ground)
Then spread the canvas over the frame.
Once that's in place, lift one side into its full upright position and then do the same to the other side.Make sure you lift the frame evenly as you don't want to twist the frame.
Straighten the canvas, close all doors and peg down.
We would hang the inners last job.
We loved our Elody and wish we still had it..Enjoy yours, its a great tent.
This was ours,August 1997

I agree with Sue`s method, I would put the inners in last too. Her tip to zip the door up BEFORE pegging is a good one, or it won`t shut and you`ll have to start again!!
Excellent purchase look forward to seeing some photos, and welcome to the site
Another little tip is to put something under your inner tents to keep them clean.
A cheap tarp will do or even one of those throw away polythene dust sheets that Wilkinsons sell for 99p.

We're really excited and can't wait to go on our first trip! trust the weather to have turned! Can anyone advise on any more absolute essentials that we should take? there seems to be so much out there to buy but we've got to be sensible with space. Another worry is is it safe to cook inside the tent?

As to cooking inside the tent..its a personal thing,we have always cooked inside our tents/trailer tent awning.
Others will disagree and say never, they will use a utility tent or inside a front canopy.
If I had small children I would seriously consider a utility tent.
In 15 years of camping we have never had one single mishap cooking inside.
Essential kit list
------------------
Groundsheet,
Cooker,
gas bottle
cooker stand/camp kitchen
some kind of cooler/fridge
EHU if you are wanting to use electric
Airbeds,sleeping bags or bedding
Torch
Table and chairs
I'm sure someone will add plenty to that list.

Thanks for the list. Kids all grown up now so no worries about that, will try cooking inside just needed a bit of reassurance! On another point -not that I'm a worrier or anything (not much lol) - want to use electric hook up but am scared of being electrocuted sorry if that sounds daft!
We cook inside our frame tent - hubby did manage to put a couple of tiny holes in the kitchen roof of the Antigua when he had a bit of a "flame" problem on the Coleman dual fuel stove

I cook inside our Elody, just make sure your cooker isn't too near the 'kitchen window', and roll the top of the window up so that the steam escapes through the mesh in the top half. It helps to have at least the top half of the door open too.
We've used hook up in ours. There's a split in the mud flap next to the kitchen window, so we bring the cable in there. Make sure you clip the hook up to a tent pole, or a table leg - don't sit it on the floor.
Hi, just tagging onto this threa. I'm after a Cabanon Elody to fix mine! Any condition I just need a few poles but will purchase a complete tent if anyone has one.
