Hi im new to this site and would like some advise. Have just bought an Outwell Bear Lake 6 - fantastic - no leaks whilst weathering it. Yes its heavy and took us a while to get up but its a lovely tent. My question after all that waffle is - does anyone own one that can confirm if you have to unzip the ground sheet every time you take it down or can it be left attached ???

we've packed it away with and without the groundsheet and tbh it was a bit easier doing it with the groundsheet despite the weight and we got it in the bag ok, we also found it easier to put up and the only reason why it got put away last time without the groundsheet attached was because it was raining and had to dry it at home. Give it a try and see how you like it, if it doesn't work for you you just go back to taking the groundsheet off

We are Bear Lake newbies but the twice that we have used ours we have kept the groundsheet attached. It does make it a really heavy tent to handle but we tend to camp for weekends only so a quick-pitch is better for us

I've never tried it with the groundsheet attached, we always pack them separately but I might give it a go after reading how others do.
You might do this already but I would suggest having a tarp under the groundsheet if you're packing it with it zipped on so there isn't any mud or anything that could get onto the flysheet. We use a tarp anyway to protect it. No need to buy an expensive footprint, a regular tarp works just as well, be sure not to have it overlapping the edges of the tent or rain will collect underneath.
Thank you all very much that answers my question beautifully and we can now take the tent down from the back garden where it has been for the past 4 days !!! as we tried to make a decision re groundsheet on or off - Like most things its a case of try it and see but never having had a canvas tent before wanted to make sure we dont damage the tent etc, great forum nice to have fellow campers to ask those "wish i knew that answer" situations.

Always take mine off so i can seperate it form the canvas, but would be a lot easier to pitch it next time if it was left attached - always gets tangled up without it
Wish they had put clips on the nylon straps that run under the tent, would make life a lot easier
We have a similar set up on our biscaya and always un-zip, you can then clean that on your arrival home and less chance of getting the main tent dirty with wet grass and mud. Cant imagine trying to pack zipped but horses for courses, nice tent choice.

Thank you all for your suggestions - we took it down - no leaks no dramas and left the base on as we are in Norfolk and have forgotten what rain looks like. Went down a dream and yes is slightly bulkier with the base but its still fits in the bag and made the amount of bags we have down to 3 so i have to say what a brilliant tent - cant wait to go away in it now :)
