Hi, Does anyone know a good replacement for a montana 6. Is it only me or is this tent overated.Had this tent for two years now Granted the meterial is strong and is easy to set up, but that side porch cum door is a waste of time and never seems to sit right plus the steep angles of the tent render a lot of inside space unusable. There's only the two of us and like a bit of space as we take everything including the kitchen sink. Had a Royal Biarritz 6 for a few years and a superb tent it was but inner tent first was it's only drawback .After reading the many reports for the Monty 6 went for that. Have we been spoilt by the Royal. Is there any other tent anyone has changed to from a Montana and found it better for space and durability.

Not changed from a Monty but I did consider one before I bought my Kampa Filey 6, primarily because the sloping front of the Monty seems to waste space.
I must admit that I am bemused by people saying that sloping front/sides are a waste of space. They give you more space for the number of poles - going vertically down reduces the space available unless you add another pole (weight and pitching time)for length. They add both extra low storage room where you won't trip over things and extra sitting room. More importantly they provide a wind shedding profile for when the wind swings round from the back of the tent (as it does). Upright fronts just get slammed into, putting far greater pressure on the frame and integrity of the tent in windy weather, made worse if you've got a canopy up (as it can seriously destabilise the tent).
Having seen how tents perform over the years, stability and a windshedding shape is essential to our choice of tents.
But as pwatson went for, the 100 denier flysheets of the Kampa ultimate range are far superior in thickness, tear resistance and UV resistance than those of Outwell and others (which tend to be 68-75 denier). Higher deniers offer significantly better durability and UV resistance. The Kampa canopies are also retractable.
Just for clarification - that the Croyde is not in Kampa's "Ultimate" range so has a denier level similar to the Monty and not the 100 denier of the Filey 6 nor some of the other high end features of the "Ultimate" range. Just a tip - the ultimate range often has the phrase "feel the difference" used in the description of the flysheet along with the standard 4000HH for all Kampa's tents.
Good luck with your hunt. Must admit the attention to detail and spec of Kampa's ultimate range is excellent (we have their Bude 4) - although their big tent designs aren't quite there for us.
I go with Val on this iv'e got 2 Montys at the moment granted the earlier model with the domed porch was a bit finnickey but what a superb tent, for me it has no equal for its size, and the new front end has just topped off what is allready a fantastic tent!

How about a Vermont? V similar to the Monty but that bit of extra space plus you can open up the whole of the front as a sun canopy. Easy to pitch too, just one more pole than the monty and pretty much the same pack size
We recently sold our Montana as we were going to get a folding camper, we changed our minds on the camper and have just bought an Outwell Arkansas 5, off to try it out at the weekend - yay!!
Just back from a battered and rain soaked week in Norfolk.(Lovely ) Thanks for all your info, going to have a look at some of your suggested tents and ideas, Edging towards the Vermont at the moment. Quite right, sell the Monty if your not 100% happy, and try something else for a season. Ebay makes this possible you will most likely sell it for 70% of a new price, then you leave the monies in the paypal account and pick something else off ebay to try.
