As far as I know, the brand name is derived from that of a rope manufacturer, John Hawley, based originally in Goodall Street, Walsall, which diversified into tents and subsequently moved (as JJ Hawley) to new premises in Lichfield Road, Walsall, hence the Lichfield brand (now Vango owned?) on some of their products. The original company gets a brief mention in this item in the Black Country Bugle.
Yes i have a quantock 4 canvas frame tent. Had since 1980''s fantastic tent. Waterproofed it regularly over years and just fantastic.
Purchased £49.99 back then.
Its a Hawley Goodall make.
Apologies for resurrecting a very old thread. I have just bought a couple of old tents and one of them is a Goodall Brand "Rover Tent". It is green cotton, with lightweight wooden poles with aluminium jointing collars. Stated measurements are 6'6" long by 5' wide by 4' high with 18" walls Most of the pegs are square section twisted steel, while the guy ropes are sewn on and are quite heavy sisal rope with aluminium runners. It has no groundsheet but a zipped door, so I am guesstimating the age as late 1950's - early 1960's. It looks to be in fantastic condition and was well worth the rather long journey to collect it. There is a very big smile on my face!
