Hi,
I have a Sunncamp canvas frame tent which is in excellent condition. In heavy rain it does let the water in a bit, so I decided to rain proof it now does anyone have any advice. Should I use Nikwax or Fabsil proofing solutions.

How old is the tent & how much use has it had? It shouldn't really be letting the rain in unless it's over ten years old or it's had an awful lot of use.
Has it been dry stored for a long time? If so, then the fibres have probably opened up. If it got soaked on your last trip, pitch it again in the garden & soak it thoroughly with a hosepipe while someone stands inside it to see whether any water comes through. If it's just a fine mist, then let it dry & soak it again. This should close up the fibres & make it waterproof again.
If it really is still letting in water after trying the above, then give it a coat of Fabsil. I've used Fabsil with a brush on one of mine. Try to keep a 'wet edge', otherwise it will leave a line. Try not to get any Fabsil on the PVC windows.
Many thanks, when I used it last year it has been stored in the dry for a year & was over ten years old. So will chance it again next week and if does let any rain in I will Fabsil it when I get back.
I prefer the old canvas tents to the nylon jobs I know they are a lot more work to pitch but I just like them. The kids just think it old fashioned, I am trying to convert them.
Once again thanks for your advice.
Regards,
Steve.
Many thanks, I will give it a go this weekend and see from there. You right the reproofing is a last resort as it will be about £60 to do the whole tent.

Huh, obviously the kids are too young to recognise quality when they see it
We changed from a brand new Sunncamp Vario 6 berth synthetic tent to second-hand canvas frame tents. I find that I can put our 6 berth Cabanon up on my own, yet two of us struggled for ages putting the synthetic tent up - blinkin ring & pin system that these modern tents have, grrrrr
Hope you find the tent's perfectly waterproof on your next holiday - but only for one night - wishing you sunshine for the rest of your holiday
Just a note to say I was away last week in Cornwall, it did rain quite a bit. But I had little or no problem with water getting in, I think once the tent had got a good soaking the expansion of the yarn did the trick. Also careful putting up helped by making sure the bedrooms were not touching the outer skin. So all was good the weather even held off and I was able to pack away a dry tent yesterday morning, journey back was a bit of a ordeal but that how it goes.
