My brother in law is looking for a new tent. In his family they've got four people, he's over 6ft, his eldest son is nearly the same height, and son no. 2 is heading the same way. They've also got a small dog.

They've camped before but crave things like space and head height. My BIL also likes the look of the double height queen sized beds.

They're also going to be looking for something that is fairly easy to put up and priced about £250

So far I've recommended he look at the Hi Gear Kalahari 10. I've also pointed him in the direction of the Gelert Meridian but it's the same tent as far as I can tell.

I've also found this Wynnster Montpellier 8 so does anybody know if this is a good tent or not? It's very cheap at £179 and I wonder why? The only thing I think detracts from the tent is that it only has one door, so you don't get the through flow of air.

I've also found the Coleman Coastline 8 with it's free porch, is it worth considering?

And the Khyam Ontario or the Vango Breakout 8dlx?

Thanks folks, I'll pass on all the info to my brother in law. I think I'll give him another option too, which is to use his Icarus for himself and my sis, and get the kids to sleep in a pup tent, like a Decathlon 4 man. That way he could use his money for the double height queensized airbed he wants!

Is a decathlon 4 man pop up considered too big for a pup tent?

Hi we have the Royal Bordeaux 6ZG fab tent, loads of room, head height great my other half is 6ft and I am only 5ft3 and I cant reach the roof area.......

Takes two to put up have seen them for sale on ebay and online.

We have two double beds and one single in the bedroom area but you could put 3 doubles. Lots of space in the living area.

Good luck tent hunting.

I was always told the definition of a pup tent was a "small 2-3 man tent with no seperate living area, used by up to 2 children for the purpose of sleeping only"

Does that help?

He's listened very carefully to my advice. He's taken on board all comments and persued every link. Then he went for the Easycamp Topeka anyway (it was the tent he was originally looking at), although I admit it's a nice looking tent!

Lovely tent but big!
Could cause a few problems on some sites as it's over 5m wide.
