I've just returned a Vango Vista 8 man tent to the shop due to dodgy stitching.  This was a great opportunity to buy a tent with a larger living area, hence the Kalahari 8.  I am thinking about buying this in a few days time but am wondering if I am going over the top with getting such a large tent?  We have only just started camping as a family (2 adults, 2 children - 2 and 6 years) and found 'clutter' a problem (especially when it rains and you are stuck inside)!  We managed to get all the camping stuff in to our Zafira, so I don't think we went overboard and didn't take things we didn't need.  I don't want to be put off camping before we've even really began!!  Any advice please?

just looked at a picture of this tent and it looks about the same size as our corvus 6+2 and i dont think its too big, theres nothing worse than climbing on top of each other when its raining and windy, thats one reason we got ours. our old tent was very similar to the kalahari and although its big i didnt find the living area in the middle as usefull as you'd expect. the thing that i personally prefare about the corvus is the layout, theres a large 4 bed pod and also a small 2 bed pod along the back of the tent giving stacks and stacks of room in the front which is great, and if you do happen to need an additional bedroom then it comes with the tent and you can soon hang it. if youve got the budget i'd recomend the carpet and the canopy too, the carpets about £90 and we just ordered the canopy for £27. its also got a hh of 5000 and stands up very well in the wind, and its got a sig

I looked at the Kalahari thought it would be great using 2 bedrooms for sleeping and one for food/utensils etc and the other for clothes etc.  I think with kids and all the stuff that goes with kids you can never have enough space.

But as Go outdoors had the coupon for the Outwell Montana 6 at the time I ended up with that.

Thanks for your replies.  Just also wondered, the can the carpet be washed in a washing machine, only it looks like it's 'rub' clean only (I'm thinking it must get very dirty)?

We've got the Kalahari 8 and it is brilliant.  We are two adults and two kids aged 5 and 9 and a dog and have loads of room without it being too big to put up.  We use one of the bedroom pods for sleeping and have two double airbeds in there and the other pod we have a fold up table and chairs and a clothes hanging rail for our clothes.  We have the cooking and seating and tv in the living area in the middle.

We got ours from Go Outdoors when they were on sale a few weeks ago for £199.

Hope that helps.

We just bought it (2 adults and 2 kids - 6y and 3y). We were umming and ahhing about the 10 but the 8 was on special. (would have got the 10 as now on special but decided to keep the 8).

Def not too big - if you take one side as extra big bedroom and kids the other you might even get opportunity for adult time :D

Also, the accessories for the gelert meridian 8 fit the kalahari 8, the 10s are different sizes.

Incidentally, it's 3000, not 5000hh.

Hi,

Have just been away with friends for the weekend and they have just bought a Kalahari 10 tent and its massive!!! This is got to be the one to go for , they are a family of 5 with 3 kids and their was stacks of room.

This was also their first camping experience and they loved it, the tent was easy to put up as well and it coped with a couple of very windy and wet nights in Brean.

I was a bit sceptical at first as i thought a 10 man tent was just too big for a family of four or five but the extra living space you get is fantastic.

Might even buy one myself now as the Sunncamp vario 6 i have feels way too smal compared to the Kalahari, lol.

Hope this helps
