Last year we spent our first year of camping in our new Icarus 500 without a canopy but would not be without one now.

It gives you a great outdoor living space. We cook in there and leave our cooker and cadac out there the whole time. We also leave our table and chairs there too.

Wind is not a problem as the poles each have a ring and pin plus a guy rope. There are also guys at the front. It clips onto the tent. It's very secure. Whenever we can, pitch allowing, we align the tent so it is facing down wind anyway.

When it rains it will obviously come in if it is diagonally coming towards the front but on our 4 times of using it, it has never been the case.

It means you can get in and  out of the tent and not let any wet in which we found was a big problem last year.

I'd recommend one.

If you have the 500 then I would buy the vango premium extension canopy as it has a door on it, we have the 600 with a canopy on it and having a door would have been so much better, hope this helps

Hi raddy I have the premium Vango extension with the door that I use for my old Vango fireblazer in the colour smoke/ocean very sturdy and snug with lots of room and lets in loads of light it has massive widows. Bought this one to give us some more room with our old Vango fireblazer. I had read on here it is great for the Icarus as well. ( victoria 1 ) posted on here somewhere the premium one fits and has piccis as well .I was thinking of buying an icarus 500 to replace the old Fireblazer when I can afford one but im gutted now because I cant find an icarus in the same colour as my Vango extension. I can only find the blue bell or the green. Hubby says I shoulnt be a snob and buy the new blue but id love the new tent to match my fab extension (think I might have to save up for matching tent/extension) yes hes right I am a tent snob.... anyway the premium extension is fab dont hesitate to buy. In the mean time if any one finds a Icarus 500 in smoke/ocean let me know  :)

I have the canopy too and find it excellent.  We used it to cook all our meals under and sit under.  It is excellent protection against the rain and when windy it stood its ground no problems!

It may sound funny but for some reason I feel more protected when in the main tent!  It also provided somewhere to store our muddy/wet shoes.  I cant recommend it enough!

Hope this helps?

Hi can someone please confirm that the Vango Premium Extension (with door)  is suitable for the Icarus 500 as I can only find the Vango Canopy specifically for the Icarus 500 and this is the one without a door. A web link for a retailer who sells would be great too...thanks in advance
