Hi all, my hubby and I are complete novice campers and have yet to go "proper" camping LOL - we've pitched our tent and camped at my parents farm a couple of times but that's it!
My question is about our tent. We have a Montana 6 and have trouble putting it up. We don't have a problem actually getting it up, it's getting the pins in that we struggle with. Not sure where we're going wrong. Do you put the pins in before raising the poles/tent or after??? We've been trying to do it before, but like I said really struggle to get them in. Please can someone explain how to put the pins in easily?!?! It might be something really simple that we're not doing!
Thanks xxx

Hi
we dont have pins we have pockets and we put them in after the poles have been raised hard fit but they do go in
i helped 2 ladies over the weekend that had pins and boy was it hard to get them in i know the poles bend more than you think they will and they do have to be tight to keep the tent taught.
On the Outwell's there are black straps with buckles down the one side of the tent by the pins. Make sure they are loosened before trying to put the pins in the poles and the pull the strap tight once the pins are in place. Hope this makes sense. I can manage to put the pins in on our Outwell Vermont by myself with no problems (and I'm a girl - an oldish one too)

Pins in when poles are up. One side has adjustable straps, the other doesn't, make sure the straps are loose not tight and do the fixed side first. When you take the tent down, loosen the adjustable straps before removing the pins.

I agree with the above. Make sure the straps are fully loosened then tighten them once the tent is standing up.
I have found it easier to put the pins in while the poles are still on the ground.
Also you may find after putting the pins in on one side that the material needs pulling across on the roof poles toward the pins on the other side to give yourself a bit of slack. Outwells seem quite skimped on material and it gets very tight. You have to push and pull it around to get it where you want it.
Hello torgrosset.
With my Outwell, I connect the pins on one side whilst the tent and poles are on the ground (as Bob stated).
I do roughly peg out the corners of the tent, just before erection.
I then adjust the fabric sleeves around the poles to the taped markers I put on, and insert the other pins.
Then erect rear first slowly to allow the air to get in, followed by middle and front.
The more I use the tent, the easier it is to bend the poles into place.
Hope this helps?
Kind regards James

Then I bought a tent.
