I have brought a Vango Adventure tarp online thinking it would provide good cover for our cooking area, but having tried to set it up in the garden I am dissapointed with the space and the height it gives with the pole and guy ropes supplied. I realise I should have done more research - lesson learnt...

One solution I have is to purchase some larger metal porch poles in order to raise each of the corners. Can anyone suggest a place to get poles around 2 metres tall at a reasonable price?

Don't be disappointed...

Its easy - we use our Vango Adventure Tarp with all our tents from the small dome to the 4.45m wide 2.1m tall Vango Columbia 600. Just use the tent's own porch pole and get a set of longer guy ropes. If you want to use it with different height tents, tie a loop in the end of each guyrope. You just thread the loop of the relevant guy through the guying point of the tarp and feed the guy back through itself and pull tight trapping the tarp's guying point (fabric/eye) (and the tip of a king pole - aka porch pole - if desired) within the guyrope. This way you don't have to do and undo knots each time you want to change guyropes and you can add an extra pole to hold up either end of the tarp as well as the middle for a larger cooking shelter.

There is a picture of the tarp used on the tall Kampa Bude 4 in the tent review section with longer guyropes and pole. I also have a picture, but not uploaded, of it used on the Columbia 600 where we used two poles (one in the middle and one at the end) to protect the sloped front of the tent as a cooking shelter.

The tarp has proven one of our best bits of camping kit!

Most camping retailers sell king poles...

I bought some extending ones from Charlies Direct, they are great as you can adjust the height, depending on the wind!

Yes, the car is bigger than the 'van.

I also bought mine from Charlies Direct. They are Gelert adjustable ones at 5.99 GBP each.

I use them to turn my front door into a canopy on my Virginia 5 (in good weather).

The guy lines I bought from Tesco at 2.99 GBP

Good luck

Regards James

In the beginning there was darkness.
Then I bought a tent.
I'm not destitute, I'm just poor.

Tarp setup

if i wanted a cooikng area i would be looking to set my tarp like the one in the picture on the right on that link using four poles
