Apols for starting another thread on popups but I wondered whether a more specific title might surface some other input, on top of the good responses so far.

I'm looking at buying a pop up. The Outwell Fusion and the Quechua Seconds + (which I think used to be called Seconds XL, the ones with the little porches anyway) range both look good.

Does anyone have experience of either or, preferably, both? How do they compare? Also, is it worth paying extra for a porch on a pop up that will only be used for a backup one-nighter ie not as a main camping tent?

Cheers

Yes, spend the extra and buy the Outwell - you wont regret it. I spent a couple of nights in a borrowed Quechua XL before buying my Outwell Fusion. The Quechua is probably OK for an overnight but may get uncomfortable in a blow, and by comparison with the Outwell is generally compromised on quality and design.

Yes pay the extra for the porch. Why? 1) provided you're very careful you can make a brew while still lying in your sleeping bag (naughty but nice) 2)the extra space gives a less claustrophobic feel 3)the porch provides space for the comfort bucket if you dont fancy stepping outside in the middle of the night (but be careful not to kick it over in the morning)

Hi, thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

In the meantime I have bought the Quechua 3 with the porch. As its on offer at the moment it was half the price of the Outwell, and as the most I will ever do is sleep one night in it I really couldn't justify paying double for the Outwell. The Outwell does look more of a tent, if that makes sense, but in all honesty I don't need the extra it offers. If I was going camping for even one night (as opposed to just sleeping in a tent overnight) I would take my Cabanon Noumea. Yes, too many tents I know

Anyway, the Quechua is here and I'm pleased. One feature which is very good, and where it is better than the Outwell, is the height, width and general ease of access through the front door. This is the only small tent with a porch I've looked at which had maximum height at the entrance. The drop off in height over the sleeping area down to the feet end is relatively slight, and one I think I can deal with it.
