hi folks...a much "debated" subject between myself and "SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED..when a tent has condensation on the inside can you touch it or use a clean cloth to dry it?...she says no...i says yes....she believes it affects the waterproofness...i claim that when its packed away all the sides come into contact with each other and rub slightly..same as a clean cloth?........discuss!

I'll presume if you say condensation then you must mean a synthetic tent. Yes, you can touch the inside...I keep a clean microfibre cloth handy to wipe up any excess drips.
However with cotton canvas if it's raining and you touch the inside of the tent with a finger then water will start coming through the canvas by capillary action and the canvas will start leaking. It will continue to leak till the rain stops and the canvas dries out fully, but the fabric won't be damaged.
So you're both right...it just depends on which type of tent you're talking about.

I always remember being in ridge tents at guide camp, and if it was raining, if you were playing cards and your head touched the side, you had to touch your hand to the wet bit and run it down to the bottom. Apparently that stopped the rain just dripping in and made sure it ran to the bottom of the tent. Strange, the things that stick in your head.
Oh, and BTW - you WILL be wrong eventually. Us wives have ways of making sure of it.

Polycotton, I'd imagine if you touch it and leave your finger pressed up against it for a while it will leak but if you just touch it quickly its fine - I know this as I kept 'feeling' the inside when I was away recently and it was chucking it down

out of interest..whilst we were away last weekend it peed it down..i noticed a very fine spray within the tent coming from the roof..was that condensation..or is it a problem..brand new monty 6?
dont touch!! I may be wrong though...when we were away in cornwall this summer we had a right down pour and my hubby stood up in our awning...his head touches the ceiling cos its a low level van making it a low level awning u see anyways...he caused water to pour in where his head was!! i was most annoyed!! but the following day sun was out dried it up and it was fine after that... this is an older type canvas awning...
