whats better in the wind a tunnel shap or a dome shape if tall enough to stand up in?

depends how you pitch it
most tents will take a wind of maybe 25-30mph after that your on your own son

A tunnel tent with fibreglass poles will rock and sway. A dome tent with crossing poles tends to twist. Perhaps a dome is the better of the two but then you lose living space. Some tents (Vango I think) have internal bracing straps to help prevent swaying but I think metal poled tents probably have the edge and particularly frame tents.

We've had both and I personally prefer the tunnel tent.

As mentioned already, how you pitch plays a big part in it and also wind strength!

We've seen some very strong winds and gusts in our "family tent" size time, and our Vango Colorado dome withstood all of it no worries. Last week in Dorset I was watching tunnels pitched side on to the wind almost caving in and it made my mind up not to get one.
