Our tent & extension collapsed in strong winds yesterday in Whitby. Every pole bar one has some either split or broken parts to it. Am I right in thinking you can't buy an entire replacement pole but have to buy individual parts, cut them down and thread new elastic through?

Thats the usual way they are sold , either a pack of 5 or 10 sections or individual sections, rather than a complete length of poles specific to the individual tent.
Its very easy to do though.
Cut the pole to size with a junior hacksaw, wrapping masking tape around it first. rub any sharp bits off with sandpaper then re thread the elastic.

singe the end of the elastic in a flame, hold the pole upright and just drop the elastic down through it. stretcch the elastic to give a bit of tension to hold the poles together and
tie a knot in the end of it.

Thanks Debbie

I'm a bit disappointed that I have to do that for 6 out of the 7 poles on this tent and extension (being a bit lazy I suppose) and never having done it before. Annoyingly, I have one or two split sections on each pole which means a lotof cutting and rethreading of elastic.  Best get the sizes measured up and buy them then.  I was hoping I could just buy a completed set of lengths for the various different poles!

Maybe you could get a complete set of poles from vango, but it would be much more costly to do it this way . try the vango website for contact details.

But its not a hard job to do, and doesn't take long once the poles are cut to size its just like threading beads on a necklace.

I don't know if you are a male or female pixie , but it took me 10 mins to cut one pole and hubby did 2 in less than 5 minutes.
So get a bloke to saw them if you are a she.
