We have had a Coleman Trispace for the last 8 years and after our latest weeks camping ogling the newer tents we are considering buying an Outwell Florida 5. There's only 3 of us so this should be enough space and looks to have good headroom for me at 6'3". We like the idea of having a full width canopy for cooking and sitting under cover in the inevitable rain though I wonder how they fare in a strong wind - does anyone have experience of this? I was jealously looking at a rock solid Montana 6 on our windy campsite but that doesn't have a built in canopy (and is bigger than we need) and wonder whether the Florida will be that stable or will the canopy suffer from wind buffeting with a head wind into the canopy?
Also considering the Arkansas 5 and if boot space permitted the Wolf Lake 5 (but probably just dreaming as bulkier, heavier and more expensive!) though these look like the more curved roof will give me less standing headroom in the tent.
Any feedback on the Florida and Arkansas gratefully recieved particularly relating to stability.....
Thanks

hi there, have just returned from a very windy bank holiday weekend, and have experienced exactly what your concerns are, when we pitched up the wind wasnt a problem so we didnt consider having to pitch the tent any perticular way,on the sunday we headed out for the day and again the wind wasnt a problem but on our return the canopy had collapsed ripping the pegging points out of the mud skirts the tent was fully pegged down but we hadnt used delta pegs although i will make sure i get some now.through the night the wind kept up and the noise was incredible and we didnt get much sleep.I hope the delta pegs will make a difference as people on the forum hold them in high regard,on the hole the rest of the tent stood up to the weather really well whilst others around didnt, and after i tied rope around the roof rails of the car and onto the canopy pole everthing held firm.good luck with tent selection simon.
Vermont L would be a bit big for 3 of us. Googling it looks like they used to do a Vermont M which would have been perfect but they seem to have discontinued this model....shame!
Hi there, this was only our second outing with the tent,so hadnt had trouble before, but with hindsight maybe an open canopy may be a problem as for a detachable,if the weather changes when you are away you could still have problems,i was wondering if i could fold back the canopy and securly attach it to the next pole back if it happened again.simon.

Do you think you will be able to still secure the front of the tent from the wind if you fold the canopy back? Are all the guy attaching points on the front of the canopy? If so maybe you could attach the guys to the exposed frame above the front entrance to the tent maybe??
We purchased the florida 6 at the end of last year and so far have used it twice over the summer. The last time was 2 weeks ago and during one night we had severe wind and rain (although we haven't used particularly exposed sites). We used delta pegs on all the main guying points, which all held really well, I would definitely recommend them.
