Hi everyone- we are new this year to family camping (4 kids age 13- nearly 6 ) and have had two breaks so far , and a boat would have been more useful!!!   However we are not put off, and have just bought a Kalahari 10 with porch. As had a secondhand tent which although good, Go Outdoors lured us in !

What we are interested in is - would it be madness to try and go camping in October half term (with heaters!) or is a Travelodge a better bet? We favour Lake District or North Devon, just wonderd if we did go would a Haven site be better as need a few more facillities, for those early dark evenings, clubhouse, (Not used Haven before.)

Iam finding the banter on these forums great, and make me Lol -better than night at the Apolllo!! Sharon

We're hoping to get away during the October half term (definately taking the EHU and a heater just in case!)

I'm sure I did a long answer to this in another section.
Has the post been moved or did you post somewhere else as well

found where it was: my reply

We do October half term every year in the tent

We use thermals for PJ's (should it be cold enough), fan heater (auto cut out and timer on itand frost setting), hot water bottles, warm walking socks.
We have a termal fleece fitted sheet for the 'bed' and use a duvet instead of sleepin gbags (can't abide the things)
Hot drink before bedtime is good too.

Last Oct it was warm enough in the day for shorts and t-shirts.

Also remember it gets dark early so lighting is somthign to think about and things to keep you occupied. We take board games, cards, puzzle books etc etc girls take their DS's and we also have a small tv (7") and take a lap top so we can watch dvd's if need be.
I try to pick a site in an area that has things to do inside as well as outside - just in case the weather turns. I like to find the nearest swimming pool as well before we go because they like to go swimming

Not sure why the need to have three threads on this same subject, one now deleted and this one can continue here
