9iron beware......having recently come back to camping having spent the last 15 years poshing it in B&Bs I'm already the proud owner of 2 tents, with a 3rd (probably the Vango 400) being lined up

I say take the plunge and get out (beyond your garden) with your 300 this year if you can? With Autumn soon upon us it's a fantastic time to enjoy everything the UK has to offer

I'd love to get out camping before the weather turns nasty but at the moment all I've got is a tent. None of the goodies, i.e. cooker, sleeping bag, etc etc and I've been told by HERSELF who is not into camping at all that if I want all this other stuff I'll have to wait for birthdays and Christmas. Boo!

I did pitch the tent on my own in the garden today and it was fairly easy and quite a good test for me as the wind was quite strong. I soon found out that it will be handy to take 2 house bricks with me just to keep the tent from lifting when threading the poles through the sleeves. I love the tent. It really does tick all the boxes for me and the only downside I can see is the measily sized bag it came in. Vango packers must use a tyre iron to jemmy it into the bag. I had a heck of a job getting it back in.

Only if you roll them inside two woolen jumpers or similar

9iron, could you not put a couple of ground pegs in instead of bricks, alternatively get your OH to stand on one end (shoes off) whilst you put the poles in.

My OH wasn't a camper until I bought the Horizon 8 now she loves it, helps if you don't forget the air beds though....like I did....oops

Relax folks. I think a lot more of my tent than my old working jacket so the bricks were well wrapped inside my jacket first. As for asking my wife to stand barefoot in the middle of the lawn in order to help me put up my tent.....Hm!!! I'll stick with the bricks LOL.
