Hi all, I posted for the first time a few weeks ago but didn't introduce myself properly! I'm a 30-something first time camper (my partner has camped before, but with 'the boys'...), but after the first successful trip a fortnight ago I am now most definitely hooked!

We took our inherited Gelert Cadiz 5 to Treago Farm in Crantock, Cornwall for our first trip together and we had an amazing time! I would wholeheartedly recommend the site to any campers/caravanners. Excellent facilites and a good clean site. The weather was utter pants when we got there after the 6hr journey, so we pitched in driving rain and moderate wind. The weather was beautiful after that, the tent performed well until the 4th night when we had a really windy night and lost a few pegs and had a fair bit of bending in.

Anyway, we decided that after a week of my 6ft 2 partner having to bend a lot in the Gelert, that we needed a bigger tent with decent headroom. We went to our local tent/camping place on Sunday and came away with a Coleman Mackenzie x4. Lots of headroom, and what seems a far sturdier construction and greater quality.

I just wondered if anybody had one of these, and what they thought etc.?

Welcome to UKCamspite.

Most people will leave there thoughts on their tents in the review section (Mackenzie 4 or Mackenzie Cabin x4, not sure which one is yours). This is the best place to get a feel for what fellow owners think about them - and this can not always be positive.

Being a Coleman owner myself and very satisfied I would always recommend people to consider a Coleman tent if they are in the market for one. I do not think yours will disappoint you.

Hi there, we camp in Crantock at Quarryfield and walked past the site you mention on one of our hikes out one day. It does indeed look nice.

Just a quick post to mention the fact you might want to look into delta pegs which are mentioned often on this site, you also get a discount if your a member of this forum when you order them.

No, I dont sell them or anything, but camping in Cornwall over the years has lead me to think of them as being essential (in my eyes) to help you sleep better down there knowing they wont pull out of the ground in a storm!

Thanks for that Audsley, I've had a good read and most of the info seems pretty positive. If we can get a dry weekend off some time in October then we're going to grab a couple of days away and try the new tent out. It's a Coleman Mackenzie x4, I think it's the 2009 version of the x4 cabin, but it's difficult to work it out as ours has a slightly different dimension. I'm having trouble finding a footprint for it, put it that way!

Talking footprints, do any of you guys reckon it would it be a safer option to go directly for an eco groundsheet rather than buy a waterproof one and find out when booking that we need an eco?

Finn, i've had a look at those pegs and they look pretty good. I think i'm going to order a batch of nylon ones, just for the main guys and supports. It really was not nice at all being kept awake by the thought of the tent blowing in or even away! :)

Yep, the nylon ones are fine for most tents and are what most people use including me.

They are only meant for guylines only, not for the tent edges or such. I love them to bits,would go camping in Cornwall without them!
