This year for the first time as an adult I went camping with my three children, and we all loved it so I think it is going to be a regular thing for us, we live in France so there are loads of places we could go and camp.

We had a lovely big frame tent which was fab and huge (suncamp pavillion) I loved the size and space of the tent but the problem for me is putting it up, I am a single mum and my eldest is 6 so cant really help. Its huge heavy and difficult luckily this time I had help.

I am hoping you lovely people could give me some advise on what is a good buy my requirements of a tent are;

Easy to put up and take down

standing height inside

prefer three rooms/6 berth

not to heavy I nearly killed myself loading the one I have in the car

budget probably a maximum of £150 (dont mind buying 2nd hand)

to be honest Im quite overwhelmed by the huge choice available hope you can help

Helen

Hi Helen and welcome to UKCS

I would think as you live in France(lucky you)then I would only consider either a canvas or polycotton tent polyester ones get very hot inside when the sun is shining,and France has some hot weather.
Your budget is very tight to if you were to go down this path you probably have to increase it.
Over to you....

If you want an easy to put up tunnel tent you could have a look at the Vango Icarus 600, and your 6 year old is able to help out no problem. There are three poles which you bunching them together....(that's where your 6 year old comes in) and as long as you get two pegs in at the back somewhere all you have to do is walk forward, unfolding it like an accordion. It doesn't take any strength.

The lovely thing about France is that many pitches are shady. So although, yes, Canvas is better in hot conditions because if filters out more of the sun, it's not absolutely essential. Anyway, during the day you'll not be in the tent much, probably sitting outside (under a tree) or in the nearest pool. I toured France in a Royal four man dome tent and the good thing about polyester is it's got a small pack size and is easy to carry.
