Gelert Meridian 10
Gelert Meridian 10 Carpet
Gelert Meridian 10 Footprint

All for under £400 From Campmania.co.uk

Or wait a week or so for Go Outdoors to bring the price of the Kalahari 10 down (as they do) then get the tent, carpet, Footprint, and porch for around £400 - £450

Both basicaly the same tent - I had the kalahari 10 and sold it to buy a vango amazon 600 but had loads of problems with the quality of the vango so that went back and i got another kalahari 10 as its a superb tent for the money.

Hi! We have the Vango Monte Verde 900, have to say ours leaked so the shop we bought it from sent it off to be tested. Vango are sending us a new replacement tent which we get delivered on Saturday. I just hope the new tent doesn't leak as we really love this tent. The space insde is huge and the fully sewn in ground sheet in the massive porch area is great. We use our porch as a kitchen/diner. Have a look at the tent reviews before you decide.Even though our Vango leaked, I would still buy again as they have been very good with us. Nowadays buying a new tent is a lottery, no matter which make!!! Happy camping!! Try Towsure for the Vango, that's where we got ours from!!

Nice spot from Sue (Phil?).

If you don't already know ... it's made with 100D polyester; The fabric 'should' perform a little better and last quite a bit longer than pretty much all the other polyester tents on the market, and the fabric is often the first thing to go on a well cared for tent.

Do you like the Kampa Studland?

Maybe get some 'pup tents' for the oldest kids, and get a slightly smaller main tent?

Hi daveboy74, I will keep you posted. We will be putting our replacement Monte Verde up on Sunday (weather permitting) for a trial run! The 700 and 900 are both lovely tents, very roomy. The sewn in porch is fab!!

Or if you can afford it and can deal with the it the Polzeath is a big beautiful beast of a tent. The big difference with this one is that it's polycotton. Much better performance and will lsat a lot longer than polyester, but it's more expensive, has a heavier and bigger pack size, and needs more attention when packed up wet.

For a footprint, many people cut a tarp to size, or use a pond liner.

Carpets vary ... for the Polzeath maybe you'd want to get a different carpet since it doesn't match. In general, Outwell do a lot of differently sized carpets, and the quality is good. This time of year you may be able to get a bargain as well.

If you like the Polzeath then find "Zenobia"'s thread - I'm sure she'd be happy to spread the love if you wanted any tips ...

Off topic slightly, but dont forget to do your research into "Winter" camping as camping in the cold on your first trip would likely put you off camping for life if your not prepared! The tent is just one part of the experience.

There's a few good threads on here with hints and tips for camping early/ late in the year.

-------------
(Quechua popup addict!)
Planned for next year, hopefully!

Summer Solstice wild camp.

Chilled in a Field, July.

Crantock, August. Fouth year with the fantastic Quechua Base Seconds 4.2!
..... and the odd night wild camping in my Argos 1 man tent...

Just a follow-on from the earlier reply suggesting a smaller tent.

A successful solution used by some on this forum has been to put a pop-up tent (doesn't need pegging or guying) in the living area during the night for one or a couple of the children and dumping it in one of the inner tents out of the way during the day time. Kids love it and they are still inside the tent. Can be a play tent during the day too.

I'd certainly second Kampa tents - the ultimate range in particular - great quality with superior materials to other polyester makes by far (the 100D flysheets can double or more the life of the tent under UV degradation relative to the 75D used by other makes). The larger tents can, however, be heavy given the weight of the materials and time consuming to pitch until you get the hang of it. If you want a tent you can use for both shorter and longer camps not going too large may be preferable given pitching and set up times. With a number of children though living space is no doubt a priority.

Helen
