I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times but I'm new to tents having only owed caravans before. We've had our caravan stolen and are waiting to have it sorted out on the insurance. In the meantime we have a campsite booked for October so I'm thinking of buying a tent to use.
There are five of us and I would need three sleeping areas. Our airbed is a kingsize, one of the really deep expensive ones but that means that in a small sleeping area with little height the walls tend to slope in quite quickly and I don't want that to cause damp issues with the mattress touching the edges.
I would like a big tent, good and weather-proof, easy to pitch. What can you guys recommend? Thank you....

If you've got the space to transport it, then a second hand frame tent would probably be best for you. They are actually canvas and much warmer this time of year. Plenty on ebay. (and much better than a caravan)
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
I would also go for a frame tent. There are always gorgeous ones for sale and it shouldnt cost you an arm or a leg (or your soul, your granny, your virginity etc ).
The pole bag is always a fair size but because they have no sig, the canvas folds away to a pretty tidy package :)
We can get a Cabanon Antigua in our Fiat Punto with no trouble and we only use a roofbag and not a trailer.
Have a lookie on ebay and see if anything takes your fancy :)

First of all so sorry to hear about your caravan. I'm sure it was your pride and joy and for some heartless **** to come along and steal it must be heartrending.
However, camping in a tent is more fun so once you've come over to the right side you might not want to go back to a tin shed on wheels....lol....
The hardest thing to fulfill on your wishlist is the three bedrooms, but there is a couple large family tents that might do the job. One is called the Easycamp Topeka 8, then there's the Vango Vista 8 or the Gelert Horizon 8. Or howabout the Hi Gear Kalahari 10 or Khyam Ontario 8. I would advise you look at the 8 man tents for you to have the comfort for 5 people.
Thank you all. I'm all, I'm all over the place at the moment. Too spooked to know what to do for the best.
I'll have a look for tents, I figured out of season I may get a second hand ebay bargain to keep us going til we get sorted with the caravan. It was an amazingly beautiful van but unfortunately when you have something lovely there's always someone out there who fancies it for themselves.

It sounds horrible, but don't let the b&st#rds get you down.
On the tent front ... if you've got the space and a trailer for transport, I think a big, second-hand frame tent bought locally off ebay could be just the job for you. Retro good looks (the seventies are all the rage again!), cheap (always in fashion!), and if you're choosy excellent quality. There are loads of old-school frame tent fans on here who I'm sure could help you out.
