I brought 2 pop-up tents from a supermarket chain for a trip to France, at two in the morning we woke up hyperventilating and gasping for breath, the inside of the tents were soaking wet! we were suffocating due to there being no vents.
Are there any standards tents have to be made to?

Sorry ,I can't remember hearing of anyone suffocating in a tent, unless they'd had a gas leak on a heater of some sort . I would have thought the cheaper tents would be more draughty than an expensive one. There must be some sort of safety test tents have to pass before they are put onto the market. It must have been a horrible sensation to wake up sofocating, Glad you are OK

This has come up before in relation to unventilated single skin pop up tents. When it was raised last year it was in connection with, iirc, a Vango tent which as it turned out did have warnings both on the website and with the tent about not zipping the tent up completely when inside. I think that tent has been discontinued now and the basic Vango popup does say 'new side vents' on the website.
Was there any ventilation advice with the tent you bought?

The tents as described are unsuitable for serious camping, or any camping really, I guess they were less than £20. If you want a ventilated popup for overnight stops get a Quechua

good point Merry, but I think I,d rather use my old Lichfield caddet3, i,v had it for 30 years or so, allthough do like the Decathlon T2 doam for its ease of pitching.
