I have been meaning to investigate my childhood tent for some time and had memories of a huge tent in brown and orange, with flowery curtains. I've just put it up and it's green! It's quite a faded green with a beige roof and an integrated short front canopy in dark green. The inside of the tent shows the original colour, a brighter lime green - but I was right on one thing, the curtains are flowery and it is they that are brown and orange.
It's called a Stan Evans standard 6. It has one J door and a window beside it on the front and then another window on the right side. On the left there is a kitchen annexe with orange plastic sides and a mesh window.
I think I'll start using this tent as it's such a waste to have it and keep it in my parents loft. It's quite large inside and I would imagine would be a lovely tent to use for a week or a fortnights holiday.
I wish I could post the pics but my camera got sand in it at the beach last week and although it's still taking pictures the storage card won't read on the computer. I'm gutted about that because I've been planning to post about this tent for some time.
Now for the bad news. It is supposed to have six guys attached to the edge of the roof all around. One has come off. It has quite a few rubbers missing and some feet too. But the worst thing of all is that at least 5 of the poles need straightening as the last time it was used it got quite a bit of damage in a storm. One of the side legs won't even meet the ground. Despite that when it's (mostly) pegged down it doesn't look too wonky! Maybe I should just use it as it is.
What do you think, is it worth fixing up?

Hi,
I remember walking around the factory when I was maybe 5 years old, but unfortunately they ceased trading shortly after wards. And because I was young, I didn't know too much about the business itself.
My uncle, Stuart Evans, was instrumental to the business and he designed a lot of the tents. He is the managing director of Evans House, which is a large industrial building in the centre of Warrington.
In their hay-day Stan Evans Tent Manufacturers took up the top two floors of Evans House. The top floor was the shop, and show rooms, and the floor below was used for manufacturing tents. I believe they had around 60 employees at one point. The business took a down-turn because of spate of poor weather, and increasing competition from abroad, and they decided to wrap up the tent manufacturing company, and instead focus on letting space in Evans House.

This is a picture of Evans House, that I found on the internet:

As kids we used to set up a small 2 man tent and play about in it in the garden. It was great fun. We also set up a bigger tent, which looks exactly like the one you have - it's possibly the same model. But unfortunately I don't think we still have it. I'd be happy to take a look though.
Cheers,
Lyndon
