Okay, have taken plunge and bought a brand new Vario 600. It is proudly sat in its box in the corner of the bedroom until I rearrange some cupboards to create a camping storage area. Question is should I try and erect the tent, not to practise but to see if it is all there/defect free. Otherwise the first time I use it would be easter.

Hello tentvirg.
As Paul has suggested, get it up as soon as possible.

When I purchased my new tent in May, I got home and put it up to check it was as it should be.

I found a 'patch' on the SIG. But when I had it erected I realised it was a reinforcement for the bedroom pod anchor point.

It also proved a good exercise for pre-site erection, to avoid the 'Newbie' look. LOL

I avoided using the supplied pegs, I didn't wish to dirty them in case I had to return the tent.
In fact, I've not used them at all. I use my 'Ground Hogs'.

Besides, I really wanted to impress my wife with my erection skills.

Go ahead! You know you want to!

Kind regards James

In the beginning there was darkness.
Then I bought a tent.
I'm not destitute, I'm just poor.

I think it's vital to check a new tent out. Alot of the tents coming through this year have had small defects, possibly quality control is slipping. Most of them were too minor to worry about (I put Tenacious Tape over the small 1cm abrasion on the sig of my brand new, just out of it's bag tent, after determining that it was too much hassle to return it to the shop 75 miles away for such a minor problem)

There is a chance there is a more major defect, or poles or other components missing. You must determine this sooner rather than later.

Ditto - definitely worth checking it out.

PS: Congratulations on the new tent

Yup, you need to check it now, even months away from use it is a practice but the most important thing is to check now in case of issues.

As the law according to Mr Sod states -if you check it, it will be fine, if you don't it won't.
