If you've only recently bought it can you return it?

If you let us know what your requirements are we can advise you on a useable tent.

That was very cheap so if you get a couple of trips out of it, it'll not be money wasted. If you're new to camping, or recently returned to it, a £52 spend is a good way to find out if you really take to camping. All the gear can come to quite a few pounds so it's best to find out you hate camping before the spending! To be honest there are tents that are not good - Leben, rage, and skandika are appealing for their size but not always well made or have adequate amounts of guy ropes (as you've found). For a large family tent you're looking at spending alot more and it's an investment that you'll find is worth it when you're faced with bad or worsening weather.

I'm going to stand up for the underdog here! I bought DS a Leben Uuna from e bay 5 years ago, for him to use when he goes away with Sea Cadets. It has stood up to all sorts of punishment, [ not only from the weather. LOL]  and is still watertight and looking good. I only paid £11.  for it as well, I thought i would get a couple of years at the most, but he loves it, it is easy to erect and stays put very well. Sometimes you do not get what you pay for, you can get a bargain.

Everytime someone posts about one of these tents there ensues a bit of a debate from the 'wouldn't touch it with a barge pole' set and the 'well I got one and it's fine' people. I still think the tent that our OP replaces this one with when the time comes will be a Vango, Outwell, Kampa, Gelert, Khyam, Lichfield (lichfields looking good for 2011), or the like - with a higher HH, a windshedding shape, and features like fly mesh on doors and well thought out ventilation. Also basic requirements like good quality stitching and plenty of guy ropes in sensible places.

Kev, one tip for helping a tent stand up to windy conditions is to park your car on the windy side of the tent, to provide a little protection. Another one is to pitch with the back into the wind so that the front isn't catching the wind. If you have a choice pitch in the sheltered side of a building, hedge or hill.
