I am wanting to sell one of our large tents and am thinking of putting up for sale on here first. What are peoples experiences like with finding buyers this way?
Thanks in advance!

I would suggest you advertise it in as many places as possible in order to reach as many potential buyers as you can. Place an ad on here, local newsagent boards, eBay, Pre-loved, local free papers etc....
The more people who know you have something for sale, the better.
Gumtree, friday ads and free ads are also other places to place free ads. When i'm searching, ad's placed on the free ads on ukcs seem to be very prominent :)
The 1st couple of places i try would be ebay, preloved, ukcs and gumtree.
Could you wait until the beginning of the camping season as i've been told that then is the best time to sell?
Sold my canvas frame tent on here fairly quickly - but would agree with advertising on Preloved etc as well. I have sold a great deal of camping equipment via Preloved over the last few years.

I currently have a full awning for sale on UK Campsite but with no response as yet but it's the wrong time of year to sell an awning really so the spring may attract more potential buyers especially now that there will be a VAT increase on new goods. The advantage of using these forums though is to learn from others experiences which I certainly have. Although I have the awning advertised in two other places I shall now probably advertise with Preloved as others have mentioned.
I've sold tents and other bits and pieces through here. Nothing sold very quickly but it did all sell within six or eight weeks. There are no listing fees and generally less aggro.
I'd put it up on here with lots of pictures and see what happens, it's not a great time to sell whether on ebay or here but it's worth a go.

Preloved ive found I get more interest on, not had any off here except when I sold my Quechua base full as they are rare as rocking horse to buy new or immaculate now.
I had my Cabanon up for a month then towards xmas I had 3 people trying to beat the snow to get to see it and I knew 1st to view would buy as it was immaculate, I wasnt expecting to sell until into spring but the people who bought it said they had also just sold their trailer tent the week before. Ive had a lot this week calling to see if its still for sale even tho ive closed/removed the ads, maybe the canvas season has started early?

bought a porch awning from here today. Think it had been on since nov though they had managed to sell other goods in the same time.
I think on here you are more likely to get real campers, not time wasters who are still trying to decide if to camp or not and not realising the cost of quality!
I think it also depends on the time of year. I think the best time to start advertising is around March/April. Or even at the start of the Summer, as this is when folks will be looking for a bargain - and I've a feeling that half decent brand new tents will be out of quite a lot of families price range this year with the rises of VAT and the reported hike of 25% in the prices of tents. I've had a tent on Gumtree since last September and not had one single enquiry, yet a Scalextric set I sold could have sold 50 times over. I've put my tent on here as a potential swap, but on reflection im just going to sell it as part of a start up package with everything for the potential camper. All they'll need is somewhere to pitch it. Might be an idea if you plan on selling it outwith here of adding a couple of extras - perhaps if you have a few spare sleeping bags etc. Might also get you more for it.
Good Luck no matter what you do.
