I have been looking at getting my first proper tent, and have pretty much settled on the Khyam Freelander (2010 model).
I know it doesn't have a SIG, but what about the bedroom area. Is that SIGless as well.
Also I have seen some pictures with large windows and some with small. Which windows does the 2010 model have?
Does the 2010 model still have the issue with the inside zip?

Many thanks for your info

The bedroom area on the Freelander is a pod which you can clip onto the main flysheet. It has a base which is like tarp material as opposed to the silky walls. If you have a foot print, the bedroom pod would sit over it aswell.
I have a photo so I'll see if I can figure out a way of getting it on here for you to see. My tent pics are not of the 2010 model, mind, but I am sure someone will be able to point out if it is fundamentally different.

I have uploaded some photos of my pre-2010 model onto the Freelander review page.Freelander tent reviews

I see what you mean about the windows. The old models had two large windows (one was an insect mesh window). The Khyam website shows a tent with one small window and one large one.

I think you might need to go and visit a new one!

I have a Kyham Freelander 2010 model, I think there are some pics on my profile.

The bedroom has a SIG, it is a nice tent but there is a bit of a problem with the zip, as it is a bit awkward to reach. Also if it is wet outside it can drip in when the door opens.

It doesn't bother me as I don't use a footprint, but those people wuo do use a footprint, use a tarp over the door.

snowbirdcr, what windows do you have on yours.
Thanks everyone for the feedback. Bit worried about the water leaking in, but everything else is manageable

Hi,
There was a posting on here recently regarding a
front canopy for the Freelander which has just become available, this should go some way to solving the
'water leaking in' problem.

There are 4 windows, 2 on each side. I have found some pics but don't know how to post them on here. I could email them if you let me know where to send them.

It is spacious and extremely easy to erect. I have a Vango Adventure Tarp to use as a porch, but don't use it.

I will perhaps get a Freelander one if they are available. Thanks for telling us about it Micky.

Might get one myself.
As they clip onto the quick erect poles, replacing the 'top cap', it might well fit my Khyam Conquest as well !

Not sure of bedroom height on 2010 model, but enough height on previous one for my 5'4"

As for that long door zip. Having arthritis in knees and shoulders I was concerned about it. Had plenty advice on here.I read hint about using a piece of curtain rod and hook, then another from DK using split rings so I combined the idea to make a long zip puller.

I bought a piece of birch or beech dowelling 3/8" x 36", (got it from Hobbycraft shop as had smaller lengths around 85p) cut 10" off and used the 26" length. Wrapped cellotape around one end to prevent splitting, then screwed small open brass hook in middle of end. The split ring went through the zip fastener. I can close/open so much easier.

Nothing to add to the above, except to say Khyam has introduced a canopy especially for the Freelander in 2011, and I have one on order for delivery in Feb 2011.

Ooo, and I use the extended hook extractor from Delta Peg in conjunction with a split ring to aid opening and close the door with satisfactory results.
