After starting out camping life in a Blackrock 4 tent last year we have decided to upgrade and the chosen tent is currently the Corado 4.  A Google search brings up no other suppliers apart from Go outdoors, is this correct?

Hi Gear is GO's own brand. Unless you find one second-hand, you can't buy them anywhere else. They're reputedly a rebrand of Gelert tents, so you may find something similar in another brand.

Yeh, The gelert Atlantis is the same tent as the blackrock, and the Atlantis 5 is slightly bigger than the icarus 500, not that you could really tell by looking at it lol, what I have noticed, if you look at Go, they dont sell gelert tents, as it wouldn't be good to show another brand of tent identical to their own brand, people are funny when it comes to brand names, for instance, you go to a go store, and there is a hi gear blackrock 5 and an gelert Atlantis 5, which would most people go for, probably the tent with the gelert name all over even though the tents are the same thing and probably the same little Chinese person made them both, (that's another reason why 5 person tents only fit 3½ in the UK)

Looks like the tent you are looking at comes under the Gelert Morpheus range

The official word from Go Outdoors that I had this week is that Gelert do indeed make the Hi Gear tents to Go Outdoors own specifications. Therefore, there will be subtle differences between Hi Gear and Gelert products.

I normally have a look at the two websites and compare the tents, for example, Mojave 5 and Lakesbury 5, Voyager 6 and Ottawa 6...... the differences seem mainly to be the colour (and possibly the lack of windows in the Mojave....). Oh and the other subtle difference is probably the price..... I imagine Hi Gear is generally cheaper.

There's virtually no difference whatsoever apart from cosmetic things like colour and branding. Gelert also make tents for Asda and I think Halfords too, Vango make them for Tesco and Argos , and they both make various accessories in various brands for UK shops.

Just like Khyam make Wynnster, Outwell make Vacanza among others and Vango make Blacks, Eurohike,Lichfield and i think they also make a percentage of Argos tents too including the new Regatta ones.

If im wrong then correct me though, but its always what i've been led to believe

Well I certainly can't see any other differences Dezzie, apart from the price.... Didn't know who all those others made tents for though.... very interesting indeed!

Would Vango also make Regatta accessories? I found a cupboard I liked on t'interweb the other day but was Regatta and couldn't find any info anywhere else... so that would be interesting to know! (Sorry for being slightly off topic here.....)

No price matching for go outdoors on the hi gear tents and equipment as its "own brand"

Vango and Lichfield are both companies/brands owned by AMG, along with Force 10, Trangia, Blacks of Greenock (which is home also to NearlyNewTents on eBay), Wayfarer, Pheonix, Camping Spares and Repairs, among others... Given their common parent company it is not surprising that technology is being shared nor that some designs are being reallocated between the 2 companies (e.g. the tied arch designs going from Vango to Lichfield for 2011).

Outwell, Robens and Easy Camp are all brands produced by Oase Outdoors (Denmark), Robens at the technical end and Easy Camp at the budget end - designs are moved between these too.

Added to which the companies also produce for individual stores - Vacanza by Outwell (Argos), Yeomans Outdoors, Millets etc.

Just because a tent is made by a name-brand manufacturer doesn't mean it's actually the same tent. I would guess that the cheaper tents are actually made to a lower standard with cheaper materials. Not that they're bad tents: just that they are likely not of the same quality as the name brands produced on the same premises.

Just on the subject of Go Outdoors, I know some people look down on them as a store but they have given the market a gentle kick up the backside and made it a little more competative.

They hold a big range so it's easier to compare things, they have some good offers and it's been a wake up call some stores that have making huge markups.  They're not for everyone and a smaller family owned company will always be your best friend but they've opened up camping and outdoor activities to the mass public and that can only be a good thing for everyone.

We bought a Gelert Zenerth and our friends brought a hi gear Sahara the year after. they are the exactly the same apart from  theirs is a lighter colour. We had a good look at theirs as it was cheaper and that was the only difference we could spot.we went to go outdoors as we wanted to purchase the canopy for ours and we were told that it would fit as Gelert make Hi gear tents for go outdoors.

We love the Zenerth but we have just brought the Hi gear colarado 4 as a weekend tent.

Cant wait to get it pitched!

I think the tents may look the same as in the same design/technique is used to make them but I am sure the fabric quality may be different. I noticed when looking last year between the Gelert and the "Go" tents that the HH waterproofness was higher in the gelert type. This would make the manufacturing price higher. I still also think you pay that little extra for the name

Yes, have been looking at the Kalahari today in GO... it's a 3000 HH, the equivalent Gelert one would be the Meridian which is 5000 HH. So I guess that's the one big difference.
