Just recently joined and would like to know if anyone has recently purchased the new Vango Samara 600? We have but due to our poor weather have not been able to get it out of the bag
We are a family of four, myself, hubby, son 13, daughter 10. Myself and kids are fairly new to camping but hubby used to do it all the time as a kid. A few years ago we purchased a small 5 man tent which was fine at the time but really only useful for weekend use imo! It has only been used twice.
We have various bits of camping equipment but are looking to go all out for our trip away in July this year, so I would be really grateful if anyone could give us any advice or tips on everything related to camping.
Many Thanks

I can't help re the Samara, but it is an evolution of the popular Sungari 600 so possibly take some comfort from the reviews for that tent. They have taken the sloped front panel out and made it upright by the looks of it. We have the steel poled version of the Sungari - the Columbia 600 - and I must admit its a very flexible and spatious design of tent and has stood the test of time. Our Columbia has been used for about 6 weeks already (bought end 2009) and still immaculate!
If you haven't got the footprint and carpet, I'd recommend both of them whole heartedly!
Happy camping!

------------- Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!
Many thanks for the reply! We have purchased both the footprint and the carpet. It was too good a deal not too!! Its like a minefield trying to choose the right tent and choosing it with the budget that you have!!
Im loving this forum so much helpful information and I also cant believe how many people have more than one tent haha!! Maybe that will be us you never know.
Hi Gilroy67
We are just pitching the Samara right now on our display and they just look so sharp compared with the 2010 tents. That's not knocking the 2010 tents but these Vango 2011's just sit so well. I think the new sealed at the bottom doors make them pitch better.
I think you have bought one of the big sellers for the 2011 season so be prepared to see a few on the campsites...Don't go walking into someone else's tent

Awesome!!!!! I cannot wait to pitch ours and see what it has to offer inside. There is nowhere around here to see it on display, our nearest stockist is around 35 miles away. I have just noticed that Go Outdoors has it on their website as the Vango Athena (exclusive to Go Outdoors). How can they do this???
hi we have recently brought a vango samara 600 package from camping international, for tent, footprint groundsheet and carpet it was £420:00, they are in gillingham kent and are very helpful.

We got ours from camping international, for tent, carpet and footprint it was £419, it arrived within a few days. I cant wait to see some reviews and pics!!!
Hi,
Bad news I'm afraid on the Samara from us, we've had 2 now and they have both had to go back due to zip issues. The first one, the front door zip had been stitched too tightly to the zip, so you couldn't open it at all. On the second one that was delivered, (Simply Hike-they've been excellent) the side door zip wasn't finished off, so when you zipped it closed, it pulled itself apart.
Please please don't leave it until you go!! check your tents ASAP we may of been unlucky but I'd hate anyone to go for their camping trip and find out that theirs is the same.
When we did our test pitch with the tent all the zips seemed ok!!! We did have a problem though with the larger bedroom pod, there were 3 holes/tears in the ceiling of the pod. It's currently with Camping-International for investigation. I'm a tad worried now maybe I should do another test pitch just to make sure mmmmmm........
Have you decided to get it replaced or go with another tent?
Thanks for your post. We have decided against trying another Samara. We felt that even if we did get one which was ok we would still be worried about the quality of the zips when were away.
We have now ordered an Outwell Vermont L 2010. We have had an Outwell before (Montana) and were really happy with it. So we will test it this weekend & hopefully it will be ok. Hope you get your bedroom issue sorted.

Just a quick note that on the first tent we had, the ground sheet did have a hole in it and there seemed to be a few "loose threads".
Its a cavernous tent for sure, just seems to be put together a bit shabbily.
Last point, Simply Hike have not quibbled at all about us sending 2 tents back and have pick up both tents FOC and returned our money with no quibble at all. Excellent customer service and a 24/7 free sales line. Oh and the cheapest price. £337.
