They were zip out previously but also smaller. They have gone for much bigger windows for 2011 as Outwell customers seem to be going for the more panoramic designs. It may be that they couldn't make the larger ones zip out while maintaining the structural integrity of the flysheet. Alternatively, it could be a cost limiting exercise.

I don't like the idea of zip out windows myself, as windows are often one of the weaker parts of tents, more ready to go into holes when creased (although modern materials may be less prone to this - hopefully given the way the Outwell salesman treats zip out windows on the Trout Lake on a YouTube video). I always fold tents for packing away in a manner than minimises creases in the windows to maintain longevity. The ones on the Trout lake would also appear to zip open from the outside - I don't know if the Montana ones did - which would be even easier game for a thief or a mischievous child.

I wouldn't fancy accidentally leaving one open when you go off for the day either (especially if children play with them...)

Yup, 2011 model has non-opening windows. :(  We had a good look at it in GoOutdoors

Bad idea if you ask me.   Tents get hot and stuffy or full of condensation. We have a 2007 model with opening windows and they are often open so we do use them a lot. Even just for handing tea/coffee/beer/wine/food through them when cooking outside or when wet and windy and you dont want to open the door to do the same.

Madness not to have them opening. Crazy Norwegians
