I wonder if anyone can help or if it’s a “dead” tent – I bought a Vango Albany 800 second hand and it was described to me as being in perfect order apart from a split pole – if only it was just a split pole!  I took the tent out of the bag and just wanted to throw it away but my 10 year old daughter convinced me that we should have a go and put it up and see if we could do anything about it – I’d chosen the Albany as I’m a single Mum (poor – lol) and we’d previously had the Hartford XL which was an absolute monster thing to erect and there was no way my daughter and I could put that up – sorry off on a tangent.

Anyway we got the tent up and managed to clean a mass of the dirt off but its covered in mould L bits have gone orange on the tent and it does look horrid – is there anything I can use on the tent – I have searched the forum but am unsure as to what to use on this particular tent if anything.  Will the mould affect the waterproofing?  Also in the inner tent pod thingy have mould all on them and I have seen people say about putting them in the washing machine with Milton fluid – can I do this – even though they have the ground sheets on them.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated – is this tent fit for the bin as I had originally thought?!

Hi
First of all I would take the tent back to whoever you bought it off and get your money back

We had mould on one of our tents and used Milton diluted with water to treat the affected areas. We left it on for approx 15 mins and then washed off thouroughly 2 or three times and then retreated any areas that were still affected again rinsing thouroughly. Then put it up to thouroughly dry it out and treated it with "Fabsil", you may need to use a seam sealer as well if any of the tape has come off the inside seams. Used this tent for 2 years now with no problems.

As for the bedroom pods I would soak them in the bath in a dilute milton solution, the PE groundsheet may not like you washing machine, again rinse thouroughly and dry properly. Do not treat the bedrooms as they are not waterproof.

Good luck

Spot on arsenaldes. Was advised to do this and what a success . Also told to use soft top cleaner ( from halfords) on the plastic windows worked really well. Would agree to take it back. No way too sell a tent by deception.

Thanks for the advice - I will try to do that - I didn't pay a fortune for the tent but its not the point, I do feel ripped off and totally fed up with the dishonest seller - I have tried to ring but no answer and no reply to my text message - surprise surprise.

Will get some milton!!

On the plus side tho - I have to say I really am liking the layout of the albany (need to save up for a new Tigris I think lol)

Thank you for taking the time to reply and give me much needed advice - much appreciated!

Cant believe someone would be so deceptive, disgusting.

Ive just listed a tent for sale and went to great pains to check it all out before putting it up for sale. I am very aware that when you sell a tent you're potentially ruining a families holiday by selling them a dud.

Absolutely reprehensible behaviour.

Good luck with getting your money back, but take heart, there are genuine bargains to be had if it comes to getting a new tent.

P.S. Dont throw away the poles if you do bin the tent! They could either raise you some money by selling them or might come in handy if you get another similar design tent.

I hope the guy feels suitably guilty but I don't suppose people like that do, do they?

I think I'll tackle the inner tents first in the bath and see how they come up before I try the rest.

I think I am going to keep my eye out for another tent too - any recommendations for a similar style tent - do Outwell have an equivalent - although I expect they'll be too expensive.  I've seen the Tigris seems to be the equivalent but there aren't many second hand ones about was there another one in between the Albany and the Tigris - we really did like the space and the layout and how easy it was to put up!

Again thanks for the help :-)

hiyas, not sure how you will go about the problem of cleaning your tent ...but have seen much advice already given....as to another tent ...just a suggestion ...Go Outdoors have an offer 11th / 17th April on the Zenobia 6 its going to be £149.99. They will have the porch, carpet & footprint also on sale. Not sure how your budget is & if this size will do but maybe worth a look seems lots of people here have them & give them a good review. Hope you find a solution soon.

Madz.

Hi I also bought a tent Idaho (ebay) described as perfect. Bedroom pods are full of mould and smeared on chocholate.(He claimed it was perfect when he put it away, but he would say that) Its a fantastic tent and well designed but the bedrooms had black mould everywhere. I have used vanish stain remover, didnt work. Squeezed fresh cut lemon, didnt work. Put them in the washer same result. The stains just wont go away. Some sites say diluted bleach but I am reluctant as I dont want to melt the nylon/polyester (not sure which)  Is the Milton ok on this material, I have only used it cotton type fabric when the kids were young. Help would much appreciated
