Currently we use a Monty 6, and have just purchased Kampa Filey 6 it just seems the Filey 6 is of better build quality, and the built in canopy was also a major factor, but we are still to try the Filey 6. However we love the Monty 6 so we have to see how it fairs.Anybody have any opinions, thanks

A big reason is the amount of usable space; although the living area od the Monty is 25cm longer, in effect you lose some of that as usable space because of the sloping front wall. You get the front canopy, the option of a vestibule which, in effect, turns it into the equivalent of the Monty's awning and a thicker, stronger and longer-lasting material. And, if you like such things, it will have the rarity quality compared to the ubiquitous Monty.
Realisticly I think you can only decide which one is better tent if you have actually used both and I havent. The only comment I would make is the Monty has stood the test of time.

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again

It has indeed. But, to be fair, I don't think it had a serious competitor until now.
A few tried to compete but didnt make it, however it would be nice to have a decent alternative to the Monty as it gives a bit more choice.

I was more than happy with our Filey 6. My bro-in-law had the Monty so whilst I haven't stayed in it, I did go into it and I agree with a previous comment about the usable space in the Filey being so much more! We also got the vestibule which meant we could put our kitchen in there and leave it, and we had somewhere we could wheel our buggy into and leave that overnight without having to put it down too. Also agree that I wouldn't like to have 6 people in the bedroom pods, but of course there is an option to hang another pod in the living area if you need it. It would cut down on the living space but at least you have the option.

Kathryn

I think that the Filey has the edge.

There's a good reason for the sloping front wall, it's to stop the wind getting a hold on the tent. I'd hate to be in a Filey when the wind is brewing up. It'll take hold of that front canopy and the straight front face of the tent.
The Filey may be nice in good weather but I wouldn't want to be in it during our normal British weather.
Well, yes. But don't forget that the canopy can be rolled back and if you get the vestibule, as I suggested, then you have your sloping front wall but without loss of space within the living area of the tent.
You will also have potentially double the UV life expectancy with the Filey 6 relative to the Monty - given the 100 denier flysheet (the Monty having the standard 75 denier). The flysheet will also be more tear resistant. The quality of the materials throughout are better with the Kampa ultimate tents, as our little Kampa Bude 4 testifies.
I must admit, I can't see why the vestibule isn't built in to the canopy? It must be a lot of extra pfaff and a bit difficult to fit given the height of the Filey, but a sloping wind-shedding front is essential IOHO!

So, you still have the straight front wall or you have to buy the vestibule, not a straight comparison when you have to buy extras.
So it isn't the Monty 6 Vs Filey 6. It's the Monty 6 versus the filey 6 plus the vestibule. That's another £100 on top of the cost, plus the transporting it and putting it up.
Let's keep it like for like

2011 Kampa Filey plus vestibule available for £675. Outwell Montana plus awning £660. £15 pound extra for a far superior set up with greater flixibility.
Kampa only deal with smaller retailers with display space and suitable technical knowledge. They go for higher quality smaller scale manufacture so don't deal with the chain outlets...

QED
Oh, my bad, I thought it was the Monty 6 Vs Filey 6, not about each tent with a load of extras supplied.
Let's just go back to the standard Monty Vs standard Filey as per the title, shall we? Now back to my original point.
