Hello Campers!! I used to have a wonderful TT, a Cabanon Galaxy, I also had a lifetimes collection of camping equipment, everything I needed! a long story so I'll not bore you with it but basically my soon to be ex-husband gave everything away and I mean everything, even my kids toys and games, after going through all the initial grieving processes and wanting to rip varies parts of his anatomy off and feed it to him on a silver platter I’ve now decided to see this as a new venture so I’m going to buy a new tent with some of the divorce settlement along with all new shiny camping equipment not to mention games for the kids! I am now VERY excited at the prospect, my reason for sharing with you what a forgiving soul I am with a soon to be ex-husband from hell is simple, Advise please on tents, I’ve decided to go for a tent instead of a TT as my teenage children no longer come camping with me but my 2 little ones do, I’m looking atm at a Robens Cabin 500, rather like the fact it’s a 5000 hh, I’m also thinking of getting a small trailer for my new shiny stuff…….what do you think camping experts???

Hallo, good to see you are going for a better quailty tent rather than bottom end of market. If you need gas bottles tip is to buy off a carboot sale or council tip if they are allowed to give them away rather than pay expensive full price.

Hi welcome to the site. As stated have a look at the reviews, we find them really useful. If I am correct the Robens is a top bit of kit. However, not sure if 5000 is a bit over the top for the UK, having said that (now feeling foolish), our Kampa Lulworth states 5000mm on it's tag. My own preference is for steel or alluminium poles (yes they are heavier) rather than flexy glass fibre, we find them easier to erect and more stable in bad weather, but purely a personal view. Good luck for the future.

Welcome to the forum, you will get lots of advice here from everyone, dont forget to check all the tent reviews and enjoy whatever you decide to go for.

I personally would advise a minimum of 5 birth for yourself and 2 little uns, you can always unzip the inner dividing wall and then have a huge bedroom for all 3.

Polycottons are the prefered tents but take into consideration that you may be pitching it alone and they are heavier. but sure others will advise.

enjoy

Welcome my fellow Bucks camper Is great that you are getting into the excitement of new life of lots of new things, bestest luck :)

Like someone else said, you really need atleast a 5 berth, maybe look at alu poles over s/steel if you'll be pitching it on your own aswell and some good, decent pegs! Not sure whereabouts you are in Bucks to advise on what camping places to go check out, I normally go to the one in Woburn but that may be completely North of where you are. Keeping firing those questions on here though, is the best place to have come!

Hi EmmieO and good for you!  Mind you, he's given you an excuse which many of us here would love - you can go out and just shop for all new camping kit.

One thing I've found on here is how friendly everyone is and how willing to share advice and experience.

Have a great time with all your bright and shiny gear.

Blimey! That would mean having quintuplets! Then Emmie would need a 7-berth tent to fit them in

just had a look at the cabin 500, very small living space which may be a problem for littluns if its raining also no extensions available.

have a look at other manufacturers, robens is through oase outdoors, same as outwell maybe look at their tents.I would reccomend my oakland xl but its pretty much impossible to pitch solo. nevada m is popular also and its a 5 birth. find your local go outdoors or other tent retailers and explain you are pitching solo and they should help.

I reckon a 5m Bell tent would be a good option for you, could really go to town with decking one of those out Will also be very simply and easy to pitch and canvas!

Hey! thanks guys for your great comments

I'm near MK Sharlene, we only moved here in Aug last year so still finding our way around, including camping shops, I'm planning on getting a popup gazibo for extra space (I should say replace my popup ) and wind breaks.

I've found this site very helpful, the reviews on the cabin 500 are good too, so so far thats what I'll go for......I may change my mind.....happy it's MY choice

I'm 15 mins outside MK, we were in MK though until 1yr ago when we moved.

I must say, I notice the Robens is fibreglass poles?? I had a fibreglass pole tent once but never again, just did not feel safe whatsoever with the poles flexing the whole time as if they were about to snap. If people have a good budget then they generally go for alu or stainless steel, but each to their own I guess.

Edited to say: Reading it though, looks like it does have alu poles?? Can only see  a small pic of it on my netbook. Have you seen any tents up to check out useable space etc? Always worth doing this and making a note of what size the bed areas are in relation to size of the mattresses or SIM's are that you will be using, or it could end up being very, very tight!

good point, I've not seen it up, just going by the specs, your post brought back memories of trying to get my airbed into a 3 man tent, as funny as it was at the time, the bed took up the whole sleeping space, me and my boys slept with our nose on the roof of the tent lol

also, where would you recommend for tent and equipment shopping in the MK area??

I do love it here, me and the boys moved here at the end of last summer knowing nobody and have met some lovely people

Looks great, but then I looked at the pitching video, pay close attention to it as there are so so many pole bits, and sections at either end were pulled up together, unless you have super long arms, or a child able to help, may prove to be quite stressful pitching it? I can only go on the video they have shown, perhaps there are much simply ways to pitch it single handedly and I have no experience of the tent, so it's just my personal opinion on what I think about when pitching on my own.

P.S. You could try Blacks in Kingston, or Tony Wild in Woburn, although to be honest I do most of my purchasing online, but maybe go check out some items in thee places beforehand though!

Has some great features to it though doesn't it? :) Choosing a tent is never as easy as we originally thought though
