Hi Austinhead
We were on Shell Island and our Vango Colorado 600DLX was destroyed by the winds but it did not flip luckily.
I've been quoted £193 to repair which is not worth it. It was the first time we had used the tent. Vango said that we must have pitched it incorrectly, which really is not the case and we had storm pegs in.
This is our 2nd Vango the first was faulty so my experience of them is not great.
Tent insurance is something I will definitely look into.
I was really scared, our friends ended up putting their tent in the bin. x

We have the same tent and i am shocked to hear what happened, luckily its only a tent and you and your family are ok but obviously shaken by the experience. We have had ours in really high winds also but always inland, ours must be the same age as yours so that gets me slightly worried. I always thought that it was such a sturdy looking tent compared to others on sites. Good luck on your search for a replacement and hopefully this hasnt put you off.

I really don't think that your statutory rights will cover you in the event of extreme weather conditions. Vango (and I suspect all other manufacturers) will point you to wording that says that their tents are designed for the leisure market and should be taking down in high winds.
Austinhead, if your pegs remained in the ground, what failed? Did the guys come off the pegs or did the fabric of the tent fail?

Do you know what failed first though? It's interesting to know what happens - once something has failed the tent will flap and you'll get loads of damage.
