I had that decision to make last year, and I chose the Outwell Virginia 5.
I saw them both pitched next to one another and I felt the Outwell build quality was superior. The Outwell has a weather shield over the side door. But most importantly for me, the Outwell had a full 100% flyscreen door zipped in whole way round on ALL doors. The Vango only had a screen on the side door. Which meant that a) bugs/wasps/flies etc could get in the front door if we had tent opened up for a breeze, and b) my dogs can easily get out of the tent in the middle of the night by just slipping under the front door as it wasn't 100% enclosed. This was proven on a campsite at Easter when a friend of mine had her dog escape at 3am and she had to run around the campsite in her PJs trying to get her back :)
PLEASE NOTE: All my comments above were on the Icarus and the Virgina 2010 models. If there have been any changes in their 2011 models then my decision may have changed.
The Icarus is a good tent, but the Virginia is better (IMHO)
Good luck with your decision!
------------- 2011 plans:
April - Exmoor 11 nights
May - Brynawelon, Wales 3 nights
July - Rendlesham Forest 4 nights
Then I am off back home to Australia, where the weather is always perfect for camping :)
Another vote for the Outwell
We had an Icarus 500 although it was an OK tent especially for the price, sold it and bought the Outwell Nevada M, much nicer tent but then it should be for the price

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again

I'm afraid that I'd choose neither and go for the Vango Calisto 500, with its steel poles and the nice new darkened inner tents and plenty of windows...
------------- Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!
I posted about this a few weeks ago. It was tough deciding but we went for for the Virginia in the end.
We tested it out just after Easter and it was great. For my OH it was all the windows at the front that really sold it for him- he said he could picture him self sitting inside on a wet day just chilling out reading a book (with a glass or two) and it would be great because its light. For me it just felt a better tent - little things like the bag being a compression sack so it makes it really easy to pack away.
You really need to make sure your go and see them up. I also looked at some of the others that ppl on her suggested.
Let us know what you decide

just to add the 2011 Icarus now does have mesh on both doors (I think)
Plus there have been a few other changes from 2011 but am not totally sure what ( sorry)

Campers do it in the mud!
Hubby says we can't camp as much this yr mmm we'll see!!
camped in 2009= 27nights
Booked for 2010 = 30 nights.
I tried an Icarus 2011 and it didn't strike me as being of good build quality (cheap plastic peg loops and thin material) and was very gloomy inside. I actually sent it back due to a manufacturing fault and changed it for an OW Virginia 500. The build quality is so much better (nice thick material and great light) and everything about it feels quality whereas the Icarus everything felt cheap.
We've had an Icarus 600 As a weekend tent the Icarus is fine for the 3 of us and the dog, I wish ours had the big door mesh though (the 2011 version does have it). Great little family tent but i wouldn't want to spend more than a few nights in it, especially without the mesh on the main door.

We have the Virginia 5 with extension and I love it to bits. We used it for a trip in August along with friends who have an Icarus 500. The weather was awful with torrential rain. The Icarus 500 leaked like a seive and our friends sadly had to cut the trip very short to return home. They have since sent the tent back and got a full refund.

Definately thumbs up for the Outwell Virginia - the tent is very good quality and the bag for it is absolutely fantastic. There is no problem in putting the tent away into the bag, it fits with plenty of room to spare. There is nothing worse after a trip away than trying to squeeze a tent into a bag that is too small for it. The Outwell bag has plenty of room!
We bought the outwell virginia 5 this year and found it a great tent for the 2 of us. Have since bought the Vango icarus 500 enclosed canopy for extra room when holidaying for more than a long weekend.
Stood up to some pretty horrendous rain August bank holiday and the mesh doors great for keeping the dog in. He did escape one night but only when I had not zipped it shut. A lesson learnt
