hi , been reading this site for a while picked up lots of info but still have a few questions please.
me and my husband both went camping as kids and have been as a couple but some years ago .. so now we want to attempt it as a family. we would like to do 1 or 2 weeks in france in the summer and then several summer weekends and the school holidays easter / whitsun etc
there is 5 of us at the moment - me and hubby like lots of room and like the idea of seperate bedroom areas for the kids so we are considering the gelert meridian , just wondered if anyone had any opinions or alternative suggestions we dont really have a budget as such but dont want to be spending silly money , though we are prepared to invest in something decent
Thanks

I'm another newbie, so again not much help! We have just ordered a Vango Maritsa 500 - would not be big enough for you, but they do a 700 which you might like to look at. There are loads of great tents out there, and I guess it is very much a matter of personal preference, but the tent reviews on here are fab and really helped us with making our decision. Will look forward to hearing what you go for in the end
I would have a look at the Kampa website nice tents and good quality, then have a look at some Outwells before making a decision as I would suggest, at the risk of upsetting Gelert owner, better quality tents

If you're planning to use it for two weeks in France, I'd recommend a canvas or polycotton tent. A polyester tent will feel like an oven during a French summer. If you really want to go for a polyester, I would suggest that you buy a large tarp & rig it up above the tent (leaving a gap for airflow) to keep the inside of the tent cooler.
Thanks for the advice , i'll check out the kampa site now .
jk98 - do you have any suggestions of canvas or polycotton tents for me to look at ? we looked at a couple of outwells when we saw the gelert but couldnt really see what was so much etter to make them so much more money iykwim - though i do like the features they have such as the kids bedrooms etc.

A polycotton is a must, have camped in the South of France a few times & boy was I glad of my BL4, if the tent had been any other thing than cotton or polycotton, come 6am in the morning, too hot inside to stay inside
The "optional" front bedroom is capable of taking a double airbed, (one of the few that is) and so its great to avoid sharing a bedroom wall with the kids.
Can't praise the Kampa range enough, especially when you compare their prices to the likes of Outwell's.
