Hi there

Am thinking of taking the plunge and looking at buying a decent tent for me and the family to go camping in

With such a myriad to choose from I am a bit bewildered- I had originally set my mind on a 8 berth tunnel tent, the Kalihari 8 from Go Outdoors but having visited a store yesterday it's massive, especially as there's only 4 of us and we don't want too huge a tent

Am after a 6 berth with 3 seperate bedrooms i.e. proper seperate bedrooms not just a material divider.  Happy to go with any brand and ideally keep price under £300

Any recommendations most welcome

Thanks in advance

D

you will be lucky to find a tent that has 3 seperate bedrooms for under 300 as most have dividers in at least 1 pod, usually a 4 birth pod with a divider. to be honest you are going to struggle to get any tent that's half decent for under $300 unless you go down the 2nd hand route.

Second hand outsell Hartford xl. Plenty of them around so second hand values mean you can get a lot of quality tent for your money. For £300 you should be bale to pick one up with a footprint and a carpet.
You could even get the xxl which has four bedrooms and use one for storage.

The Hartford has the benefit of being easy to erect and very comfortable.

I was going to recommend that too but they said a Kalahari 8 was too big and the Hartford Dwarfs that

Try Kampa Pendine 8, same layout as Kalahari 8, but better quality with steel poles, never underestimate the amount of size you need camping especially with kids.

I think you're looking at an eight man before you get three completely separate bed pods. My sister has an Easycamp Topeka which has three pods arranged around a central living area, but it is a huge tent overall. The other one I can think of is the Khyam Ontario 8, it has a four berth pod on one side with a dividing curtain (this could be the master suite) and the two pods on the other side of the central living area are hooked in completely separately so you could choose not to use one to increase storage space. The good thing about the Khyam is that it's keenly priced.

Cheers for all your replies everyone

I've had a look around on the net and read some reviews on here and foulnd a few that could potentially fit the bill (admittedly some will have to be bought 2nd hand to get in budget)

Gelert Trinity 6 or Cyclone 6

Wynnster Condor Plus or Cormorany 6

Vango Kasari 600 or Colorado 600dlx

Khyam Tourer 600 or Hatfiled

Coleman Magellan or Columbus 6

Plus a Marechal Menorca or some of the Skandika ones but never heard of those brands so not sure how good they are

Have you looked at the Hi-Gear Sahara 6 (at Go-Outdoors) or the Gelert Zenith 6 or Zenith 8.

We love our Sahara - its huge; but its fantastic for all our needs.

Well none of them would be my choice but the Vango Kasari is probably the best of the bunch

Don't touch Skandika with a bargepole, very shoddily put together. Same for rage tents and leben.

have a look at the Gelert beyond Corvus 6+2 - you will be able to get one on ebay for less that £300, they are excellent tents. 3 seperate roomy rooms - definitely worth considering.

I'm selling a Coleman Coastline 8 Deluxe right now (check the classifieds, easily in your price range and is only 9 months old), everyone thinks its huge but when you start using it trust me - you'll want every inch of the space! Also takes no more time to pitch than the 6 man versions and is only a couple of feet bigger.

There are 4 of us and I personally wouldnt want any smaller than this size for us.

We've never encountered anywhere that says its an XL tent either - happily fits on a normal size pitch.
