We have just bought a Clear Lake ..and I loved it ! However, due to some  manufacturing imperfections we are taking it back to the dealer.

I am in the middle of a dilemma though !!!

I think I may have changed my mind and cannot decide whether to go and swap it out for the Wolf Lake 7.

The Wolf Lake has an awning, options for side entrances , options for size differences to fit on pitch.. but the Clear Lake has the amazing mesh, zippable porch area for dumping kids bikes etc [ or can convert to massive dry  play area with carpet ]

Any pros and cons that could be offered to help me make my decision would be truly welcome !

They are both good tents but The Clear lake edges for me due to the huge Awning / porch area. most people want an extension then awning (porch)for their tent ask any monty 6 owner which they would prefer. the clear lake has one built in, the living area is also bigger in the Clear Lake, if you want an extension you can use the front doors.
I have no doubt that Outwell will bring out other options for this tent in the future

I've been a fan of the Wolf Lake for a long time but the space, brightness with all those large windows and two living areas means that the Clear Lake edges it for me.

But boy! Is it big!!

I have two main wories about the clear lake and they are based on when it is raining.
The first is that there are no side doors and no windows that can be opened on the sides.
The second is that the groundsheet zip starts at the front of the porch so you cant roll it back away from the door very far.. so how WET would it get if you want to keep the front door open and its raining [ My initial idea was to make the porch another potential living area and as such I have a wolf lake carpet ready to go in there.]
Am I worrying too much about a large puddle forming ? Would lifting up the front door flap onto the awning poles make this issue go away ?
I remember the Norfolk lake having a bit of an issue with this..and they brought out a canopy extension I think .. I really dont want to go down that route with the clear lake as its already HUGE.

I think your concerns are justified, toomuchstuff. It is a potential weakness.

Except that it never rains when you are camping!!

The raining in the doorway is an issue with all outwell tents including the wolf 7, if you want the clear lake doors open when it rains then atleast your bathtub ground sheet can be removed completely and put back when it's stopped raining. If you swap to the wolf 7 you will still have the same issue with the side doors.
In the end it's up to you both are great tents

Yes - I suppose that the front ground sheet could just be put in unzipped and pulled back .. so at least you have some floor covering. I guess that is the good thing about the bathtub groundsheets - they support themselves !

I certainly would not be wanting to move it around - its so HEAVY !

Hiya ,

I have a clear lake and I must admit I love it.  We wanted a fully enclosed area, which obviously the wolf lake didn't have.  I guess it horses for  courses though.

I'm interested in what the fault was with the clear lake though?

Well we decided to go for the Wolf Lake 7  with a side extension .

Rayn - A couple  of the curtains in the enclosed area had a fault in the material .. they would not have lasted long before ripping.. Nothing major - but not something to put up with after spending so much money.

Hiya .

Too much stuff - if the curtains were faulty I wouldn't def. have taken it back, these tents aren't cheap are they?

Good luck with wolf lake, our friends have got one and they love it, v v nice tent.

Happy camping !

Rayn
