We have bought a Vango Maritsa 500, it was delivered last Friday but we had a wedding last weekend, so no chance of a test pitch. However, am hoping that we will get chance to do our first test this weekend!! Bearing in mind that it is many years since either of us put up a tent, I just wondered if anyone had any handy hints, either generic or specific to the Maritsa? Am expecting it to take us a long time and to encounter some problems - I like to think I'm a realist lol! The plan is to get over these before we have to pitch for real on a campsite though!
Thanks guys - and wish me luck!!!

We bought the maritsa 500 last year as our 1st tent and have had 2 great holidays so far. We found it very difficult to pitch on both occasions but it certainly was a little easier the second time around. Make sure you fully release the tension straps where the pins are inserted into the pole ends, we obviously didnt on our 1st pitch and struggled.
Once the tent is pitched we really like it, we even bought the front enclosed canopy this year which gave us extra room.
We pitch our Maritsa like this video. I know it's not the same tent in the video but the process is the same and like many others on here that use the same method it works really well.
I've tried the way Vango show on their website a few times and to be honest it's a lot harder to achieve (been putting up tents for 25 yrs+) and puts undue stress on the fabrics of the tent and is not really suitable for the differing width of the Maritsa. If you notice on the Vango video they miss out the part which is problematic! You'll see what I'm talking about when you come to erecting!
Anyway, hope the video helps, it certainly did with us!

Thanks for your replies, Gareth that video is really good, thanks for the link. Will give it a go using that method and see how we go - I must admit, the Vango video seems to miss out quite a few bits which always makes me suspicious
Going to study that video closely ( thanks Gareth ) and give it a try next time we pitch our Maritsa. Looking back at our 2 efforts so far it certainly looks far easier than the vango method!
The problem with the Vango method is that the Maritsa has a different width at one end to the other which makes it hard to gather all the poles up together to walk along. The width difference of the Maritsa 700 is 180cm's, I'm not sure how Vango expected people's arms to stretch that far while holding nearly 40kg's of tent! All Vango's method does is run the risk of the tent being damaged in the process of pulling, stretching and general frustration of trying to walk the tent in this manner.
It's funny how they missed out the tricky bit in the video isn't it!?
Anyway your quite welcome for the video link and I'm sure you'll get on much better and quicker with this method.
Kind regards
Gareth

we have the maritsa 700 and put it up like vango said the 1st time we did it and its hard work ... the 2nd time we followed advice from gareth29 and it took us half the time and not as much effort on our backs by following the above link it really is so much better, theres no struggling to try get the pins in the bottom but also trying to pull up and carry all that weight, good luck and once again to gareth29 thanks
Lol, nearly divorce is what I'm afraid of!!! However, I showed hubby the pitching video as per Gareth's link above this afternoon, and he is now convinced that we will never be able to pitch our tent lol! I think it looks really straightforward, he is having nightmares - might end up with the divorce before the tent even makes it out of the bag at this rate
Ha ha, annilou, will make sure the wine and a couple of glasses are packed near the top then!! Gareth, I am not worried, I am sure we will be fine - all my holidays with my parents were in a trailer tent, and I used to help put that up - hubby is a natural born worrier lol! He said that the man on the pitching video was doing his head in because he was running around lol!!!
Hi, have brought a Marista 700, tried to pitch it with my cousin........OMG......the vango video was useless, 2 hours later a trip to the shop to get ice lollys was needed.....then came on here and took Gareth's advice, watched the pitching video for the Outwell Vermont XL, fanbloodytastic......20 mins later the tent was up........all hail Gareth.......x
This method was left in the tent review section, not tried it yet but off next week in our Maritsa so may give it ago, although the video link Gareth29 has left looks another goo way.
1. Roll out and peg front of tent only
2. Open all doors
3 Make sure straps released (though could probably do it without releasing them too much)
4. Start poles from the front on the ground
5. Push the fabric round and when each pole is in point the arch towards the front of the tent (theres no real explanation of how to get the pins in the poles as they just easily went in without huffing and puffing)
6. Roughly lay each pole on top of the previous one
7. When all poles are in stand the tent up (need two people at this point)
8. Peg a couple of guys at the front of the tent to give a bit of support
9. Shimmy the tent back (after closing the side doors)
Hi guys We have mislaid our pegs for our Maritsa 500 steel pole tent and wondered if anyone here knew how many are needed to pitch the tent.
We are selling it this year as have bought an airbeam tent for easier pitching
Thanks in advance
John
