We're looking to upgrade to a larger tent this year and quite like the idea of a porch extension to act as our kitchen area leaving the kids free to play in the main tent especially during wet weather. We've looked at the Gelert Corvus 6&2 and I like the side porch on this. Also quite like the Outwell Monty 6. My main concern is how well extensions perform in the windy weather. I would expect that any addition that isn't fully zipped onto the main structure would be unstable in bad weather. That said there are loads of them on the market. So, how do you all get on with yours? Thanks.

^ Should have said that massive windows are a requirement if anyone is going to recommend something else to me! Current set-up oppressively window-less :-(
We have a Monty, old model, and extension. Seems fine in windy weather we have encountered. Last year on a Devon hillside, the wind was blowing head on and seemed to go under the extension and out through the gap where it joined the tent. Having said that, if it had continued to blow in that direction, we were planning on taking it down just in case. Really pleased with the extension, means we can be "outside" even if it's wet and is great for dumping wet/muddy gear.

We had an extension on our Monty and it was ok in windy weather but would have considered taking it down if it looked like taking off. That said the Monty extension has steel poles as opposed to fibreglas poles on some of the cheaper canopies/extensions

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
The one ond only time that we've pitched the Montana awning we had very windy weather indeed in Derbyshire. The awning was as stable as the tent was, no worries at all even with the wind hitting side on. And yes the windows are even bigger on the 2011 model, fabulous in bad weather.

If you want both then consider a bigger tent, the Vermont is pretty much a Montana with a built in extension. It has an internal door instead of a weatherproof one.
We took down our canopy when we had high winds once whilst using our frame tent. My thoughts were that if the wind got under the canopy it would pull on the tent and could damage the frame. Better safe than sorry.
