Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong section!

Has anyone any experience of tent insurance such as

This ?

Spotted the insurance info in a recent link and wondered how it stacked up against any other type people might have. I did do a search but couldn't see anything more specific.

Thanks

Same as sixs our camping equipment is covered as part of an "away from home all risks" cover which is for £3000 within our house contents policy which is with Zurich insurance. Not sure how much extra we paid for that but it is not that much.

We had reason to use it when out previous Cabanon Biscaya tent was fire damaged. The insurance replaced it with a brand new Biscaya and my premiums didn't even go up the following year. Check your insurance as some companies specifically exclude camping equipment.

Camping and Caravan club do tent insurance but no idea how much as I have my house cover.

We have just taken out insurance with Shield as our home insurance excludes camping and wouldn't not have insurance. Our trailer tent and all equipment was stolen last year and we would not have been able to replace everything without our previous insurance payout.

You want to be wary of your excess when you're including on your home insurance. Better than not having insurance and good if the whole tent is a goner, but annoying if someone nicks your sleeping bag/cool box etc.

Having a comprehensive policy like this cover most eventualities - we checked and as long as you're sensible and don;t take lots of uber expensive gear with you then you're covered  (as long as the tent has 4 enclosed sides)... just don't take your PS3 etc

Its the cover for storm damage that interests me... just more reassurance than anything else.

Yes, we've been in discussions with a number of insurers over the past few months and the next best policy on the market seems to only insure the tent when you're in it. The tent is insured if unattended... but only if left in a locked building!

We wanted to be able to recommend our customers to a policy which - let's be frank - properly protects the £200-£1500 they've just shelled out on a tent as you'd be surprised about the number of people that only get to use their new purchase once before a storm takes it and folds it into the nearest tree.

The contents insurance is a bonus on the policy so your standard sleeping bags, mats, tables and cool box etc are covered (i think laptops/iphones etc are excluded though as you would expect).

We get a lot of people thinking storm damage in particular must be a manufacturing fault and we get stuck in between a rock (wanting to help the customer) and hard place (the manufacturer's stance). Hopefully this will help resolve some of this - and we've negotiated a discount too

Have read a few posts on here regarding insurance but still unsure as to whether it's a good idea or not. It's the thought of losing my tent half way through a holiday due to winds/storms thats worrying me! I wouldn't put a tent up in these conditions but with the weather changing so quickly lately...

So any advice for/against?? Or who's best for insurance?
