Hi all,

New member finally looking at purchasing a tent for our first ever camping trip.

We are a family of 4 (mom,dad,3yo girl and 2yo boy). Seeing as go outdoors are running the 20% offer this Saturday it looks like it's time to take the plunge after months of looking.

Only trouble is, we can't decide between the montana and the Tennessee, we like the little porch of the montana for cooking etc, but the space and layout of the Tennessee.

Anyone have anything to throw into the subject as to which they think would be best for us? We are at a stalemate!!!

Thanks in advance

I am not sure its a good idea to cook in the porch of the Montana. We have Vango's equivalent and you'd be cooking too close to the flysheet. We do cook in our Columbia but in the main part well away from the sides. With 2 young children running around I am not sure that would be a good idea either.

Other forum members will recommend that you never cook inside a tent although many other do. You could go for a tent with a separate built in porch area or a canopy/ extension although you still have to be careful as the tent can still go up in flames if you don't take the various precautions discussed on this forum. At least with a divided living area you can avoid children running into the stove or knocking other lightweight furniture over and causing a serious accident.

Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!

Thanks speedcamp.

Some good points I hadn't thought of threre, would you be swaying more towards the tennessee then with a view to arranging some kind of extra canopy area then?

the Little porch for the Montana 6 is just for taking wet stuff off such as shoes and coats. The Montana has the optional extras such as front canopy or awning for cooking etc.

You will be gratefull of the extra living space the Monty has when it rains.

Not seen any extra's for the tennesse as of yet,

The Monty is tried and tested, the Tennessee 6 isnt.

The Tennesse 5 is even better than the 6 but costs more.

another option for you is the Vermont L(or xl) which is basically a monty 6 with a built in awning

Good luck in deciding

Good Tent, Huuuuuuuuuuuuuge living area, Flexi rather than steel poles thoough.

Extension slightly bigger than ours and we cook in it no problems at all.

Try for a package deal that includes carpet, carpet costs £90 usually

Don't get the Tennessee, get the clearlake :D It's the same tent but polycotton and it's the most gorgeous tent ever (in my opinion :D )

Ha Ha, cheers for that Lewis, if only I had a grand odd spare to flounder on a new tent. I think I am leaning more towards the Tennessee 6 as I just noticed on the video the fact the whole front of it lifts up like a canopy, nice for when its warm!!!

We really liked the montana 6, its a good size, but for what we wanted we would have had to purchase awning, as i like the idea of keeping cooking area seperate and also being able to close it up as opposed to a canopy. But once we viewed we ended up with an outwell vermont xl as its all in and same price as montana plus an awning.. so easy to pitch/take down,(had a test run this week) we are going on our very first camping trip this weekend!
