Has anybody else had quality issues with Vango tents this season?
Have had to send back 3 Icarus 600's within a few days of each other.
The 1st one had glue stuck to the ceiling of the flysheet, a hole in the front panel of the flysheet & the stitching was of very poor quality.
The 2nd one had a hole in the side panel of the flysheet, had stitching that had been completely missed & was also not finished off properly.
The 3rd one had a 1inch hole by the ring & pin where it had been completely missed when being stitched.
They were from two separate batches, one made in October 2010 & the other two in November 2010.
We have decided to give up on Vango this year so it's back to the drawing board for another weekend tent.

Hi Angiebaby29
I would take a look at the Cabanon tents on places like Ebay,Preloved and Gumtree, if i was looking for a well made tent, have just bought one of their kitchen tents and the build quality is really good. I know they can be heavy but then they are made from serious material. If our Vango tigris 800 develops the sort of faults you and others are having i an going to take it back to the shop and see if i can get my money back and then buy a good second hand Cabanon.

Unfortunately its a sign of the times. Whilst the larger tent manufacturers use China as their manufacturing source its not going to get any better. The cost cutting extends right down the chain. Shocking!

Get a Cabanon. I've had/got loads of tents now. Outwell, Vango, Gelert, Coleman and whilst I've loved them, they cannot hold a candle to Cabanon in terms of quality, in my experience anyway.
They maybe expensive brand new, but they will last decades if looked after. Or, go second hand and look for a bargain.
The main problem I guess is getting into the mind set of buying something a bit different, and to the British at least, Cabanon tents are a bit different. Most people will go to Go Outdoors or Yeomans and pick a tent (usually an Outwell Montana!! Lol - I've counted 5 on the site I'm on at the min) Cabanon are a lot harder to find, but I'd recommend having a look if you can get the chance.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I think the problem is not just limited to Vango, although they seem to be having more problems than most this season, all tent manufacturers have had quality control issues at times. As for the problem lying with China, I dont think so. Look how many products are made in China in fact it might be easier to find products that are not made in China.
We as consumers are to blame as we have developed a "cheapest is best" market. How many of us have gone to our local shop, seen the item we want and then gone online to find the cheapest price. Local business and after sales service take a poor second place to price

Its not that simple though. Not everyone has the budget to go out and buy a Cabanon. I couldnt afford a Cabanon without seriously going without something important like food - so its not really an option. I know im not the only person. A lot of people post on here that Cabanons are the best thing since sliced bread - which I would not dispute - not for a minute, but they are seriously out of the price range of most families unless they have either very heavy wallets or maxed out credit cards. And before the Ebay retorts come in. Its not as easy as going on ebay, finding one and bidding. Most are pick up only, going for funny money or getting snapped up by folks who've already got a load of tents and just want another one to look at (or use the excuse its for the "weekend"). Again, im not knocking anyone for doing that, but we really need a bit of a reality check. A Vango Icarus is a great family tent, loads of campers buy them, but since the majority of tents nowadays come from the same part of China and in a lot of cases the very same factory, there are sadly going to be the odd cases of quality control failures getting into the loop. I wouldnt say that a couple of posts here would constitute a crisis, but it is better to understand that in manufacture that cheaper never ever means better quality, but most people nowadays dont have the luxury of bottomless pockets. Its just a sign of the times.
