unless it is leaking or has been re proofed in the past then you should not need to re-proof it.
What makes you think you need to re-proof it???

Hi Brian thanks for reply, the tent is a cream colour and i just used the tent this weekend and some dark brown patches appeared in about 4 places, but they only show up when the tent is wet.and they are in the places where i wiped bird poo off it last year,so i was thinking i must have rubed the water proof off when removing the bird poo.

Thanks Dave

if there was no water coming through then do not re-proof it, canvas does change colour when it gets wet. the fibres of the canvas swell when they get wet which then makes the tent waterproof.

did you use any chemicals to clean the bird poo??

If you did then you may have affected the fabric but as i said if no water came in then it should be fine

Hi Dave, notice you have a Guadeloupe. Just got home from first outing in ours and loved it. It really poured it down all night last night, and the canvas was quite wet to touch on the inside. Couldn't work out if this was due to the material getting wet for first time, or due to fact it was raining for so long, the material couldn't breathe so the moisture was condensation? Would appreciate opinions.

Thanks

Andy

NEVER use anything stronger than water on your tent you will kill it.

you may have managed to get away lightly this time.

Keep an eye on it and if you do see water coming through then you will need to re-proof

Hi Andy apparantly they do on there first soaking, should be ok next time though. Don't leave it packed away wet though.Mine did leak by the door where the spiky poles go through so i just put rubber grommits on the outside no more leaks.Still pleased though.

Dave, get yourself some of These just check the size you need, they work lots better if they are a tight fit and look better.

Andy, if it was the first time the canvas had got wet then yes you might get what is called misting on the inside, this should improve from now on, but also remember that if the canvas is wet then it does not breath as well so you can get a little condensation inside

Haha, funny that, I really thought water was going to get in there, I would have put money on it. It rained really heavy but no water got through the holes. I won't leave it packed wet, not after spending so much on a tent!! Over the moon though!!

If your canvas continues to wet out, probably because you've used detergent on it, I would be inclined to give THIS a try. You would probably only need to treat the wetted areas. It can be applied to wet canvas so you can find the right areas. I'm sure you could buy it cheaper than this elsewhere.

Better not to even use proper tent cleaner on canvas.

I brush any mud off with a soft bristle brush and put up with any stains: they give the tent character!
