Newbie here - hope you can help me out........

We are looking for a new tent and have decided on the Gelert Morpheus 8. Unfortunately we haven't been able to find any reviews about this tent as I think it's one of the 2011 crop.

We currently have a pro-action 4 man tent and have decided that as a family of four (sometimes 5) we really really need more space.

After a relaxing afternoon looking round a large variety of tent we narrowed down a list of 8 to the Morpheus.

Any opinions, suggestions or advice would be wonderful as we have decided as a family that camping is the way to go!

Welcome to the forum and the crazy world of camping!

The Morpheus is not a tent I am familiar with but looking online it looks very nice(although very heavy!) and Gelert is a respected brand.

At 740cm x 490cm you shouldn't have any problems getting on to sites (tents over 5m wide or those that are X or Y shaped have been known to encounter problems due to their large footprint)

Have you actually seen it erected?
Remember that all tents look huge until you get all your gear inside!

What other tents were on your list?

Hello,

Thanks for the help.

We have seen it erected. Having looked idley at tents on paper in the past we were amazed at the physical size of some of them

Our list was as follows:

Coleman Fremont 6 &8

Sprayway Canyon 8+2

Royal Cuban

Gelert Morphius

Vango Kasari 800

We have recently beenc amping in a tiny 4 man Pro Action tent and we do like to travel light when camping - bare essentials and thats it type camping but any suggestions or advice would be great as we are so confused now

Thanks

Sian

All he ones on the list we have seen pitched so thats what we made our list from as they have abranch near us. We has a look at Outwell tents but decided that we neede to see them in the canvas so to speak to get a feel for the size and layout.

I think the outwell ones we have seen on the net are probably the expensive end of the market but I am going on another adventure tomorrow to have a look at some more tents. Lets hope we can make up our minds soon otherwise we will end up camping in August in the same tiny tent we have now  which is far to small for four people.

Thanks for the welcome - everyone here is so friendly

Everyone on here is nuts, camping nuts...am sure you will find something that takes your fancy, everyone has a different idea of what makes a perfect tent,if you have windows in your tent it makes all the difference if its wet and miserable..and mosquito nets on doors is a good addition (keep midges at bay). If you have a look at some of the tent reviews on here it might give you an idea of whats out there, and what others think.

Hi...did you buy the Morpheus? We're also thinking of buying this tent, seen a very good deal online for the tent, carpet and footprint (£545). How easy is it to pitch?

Hi Stevekaz,

In the end we bought a Vango Monte Verde 900. Long story as to how we came to it but my parents decided to contribute to the cost so they could come away with their grandchildren. Having now pitched the Vango MV 900 which is slightly larger than the Morpheus 8 it is a bit tricky but doable with two adults but a degree of co-operation and lively discussion is possible

The Vango is more expensive but slightly larger and only sleeps one more person. Have you seen one pitched? If not try and get to see one before you buy it

Let me know how you get on.

Sian

Yeah we've seen one (the morpheus) pitched, we like the size and the extra room for any guests, We were looking at a Royal Bordeaux but seen some fairly bad reviews about poles bending and the weight. So gone back the original first choice of the Morpheus. there's only 3 of us and occasionally the dog but on the off chance the in laws or daughters friends might want to come, she who must be obeyed has told me we need a large tent.

Hi,

I just wondered whether you bought that Morpheus 8 in the end and if so what you thought of it? We have just got back from our camping trip and it's the first time we have been since we have had our little boy.  We also definatley need a bigger tent like you and liked the look of this one as it offered lots of space - if you could let us know what you thought that would be lovely.  Thank you.
