Hi all,

Okay, I'm a total newbie when it comes to camping, and need some (probably very basic) advice.

Just bought and erected a Gelert Horizon 6 tent. Very nice bit of kit as far as I can tell, but I cannot work out the porch flap!

It comes with an integral porch flap and two metal poles to hold it up. On the picture it shows the porch flap staying up nicely with the poles only, but obviously in real life it just falls down. The poles don't look like they're designed to be pushed into the ground, so could someone possibly give me advice on how to get the thing to stay up?

We will be very interested in any replies you get to this message as we too have an Horizon 6. Couldn't work out how the porch stayed up either, so threw the poles away!!! Quite frankly lost the will to live trying to work it out :). We have now upgraded to the Airbeam 600, so the Horizon 6 will probably be on ebay pretty soon...

Guy lines on the corners of the door and peg out.

Sorry dustyboy, but there are no guy lines on the bottom corners of the doors.

There are only eyelet holes where the two pole ends insert into. There are no guy lines either supplied separately or attached to the doors, that can be used to keep these two poles upright.

Our poles went in the bin straight away!

To be honest, I used guy lines anyway, tied to the tops of the poles and it works fine. Seems a bit strange there are no instructions though.

As Dustyboy said - guylines from the corners and peg out. If missing guy lines just buy some nylon string.

Annoyingly I don't think they come with guys for the door but these are available cheaply anyway. As dustyboy correctly said, you loop one end of the guy over the top of the pole and guy out at 45 degrees. If you are feeling particularly keen you can get some pole caps too to prevent the guy slipping off and rain (why would you have the door open in the rain) drizzling through the eyelets and down the pole
