am more of a browser than a poster, but here goes! We are selling our campervan due to lack of use and going down the tent route.
I'm used to North Face technical high altitude tents, but the other half won't go that far so we have narrowed it down to 2. We saw both in Lake Garda and I prefer the Wolf. I reckon there is nothing between them and the berth size is an unimportant issue.
They both seem pretty bombproof and I have seen that the Wolf is slightly cheaper online.
Any reasons why we should buy one or the other?
Thanks in advance, Den

Blimey! Two years a member and this is your first post!! Welcome anyway.
I've always prefered the Wolf mainly because that front canopy goes stright down to the floor. But you can now get an extension canopy for the Bear that does the same thing but is longer. The only addition for the Wolf is a side canopy.
However, have you considered Kampa? Click here for their online brochure. I've not seen their polycottons in the flesh but there are very good reports of them. The synthetic tents I've seen are very good indeed, in some respects better than Outwell and certainly cheeper. Furthermore, you can purchase a "vestibule" which encloses the canopy giving you more shelter and making it more streamlined. I strongly recommend that you check them out.
Have seen the Kampa tents, over ruled by the long haired general as friends have a Bear and she loves it, fair one though as we are selling our beloved VW camper so she gets first choice of where to park her backside.
I prefer the Wolf as it seems to be a bit less fussy than the Bear and as you say, the front porch goes all the way to the floor. Have seen the Wolf a couple of times and I'm swayed by the fact they had their surfboards and a couple of kayaks inside it to stop them getting nicked. Just unzipped the left hand side bedroom bit and stored them down there.
We saw both Bear 6 and Wolfy 7 at yomans and to be honest there's not much between them.
The Wolf 7 is wider than standard CC&C pitches at 510
Another option is the Montana Lake and extension, it would have the largest living space of the 3.
Another awesome tent is the Huuuuge Outwell Clear Lake

Pretty much what we figured, just a wee bit wider than the Bear. Most of our camping will be in big rambly fields next to the best surf so not so much of an issue
interested in this post as we have been having the same conversation whilst drooiling over the yeomans catalogue
see my signature and whilst we have a long way to go have been planning for the big spend day.I like the fact the porch is more encolosed in the wolf lake for sitting out of an evening.
another question I was thinking of is that when we came home last weekend after having to pack away in the rain our tent took an hour or so next day to dry ,however how long would you expect a polycotton to take to dry?
------------- tent and gear all packed away now and making plans for 2012
plans so far..
Easter..Nantcols
August..Bristol balloon fiesta
August..Cornwall..of course!
Good that you're giving up the dreaded weed and have a goal at the end of it, must be hard I reckon.
Our neighbours in Lake Garda when we were there last year had the Wolf and even though they were battered for a week with near hurricane weather, the Wolf was fab.
Each day the sun would come out for a wee bit, and it was dry within an hour. Maybe that is just because the sun was quite warm in comparison to an English summer day?
I'd also say that on the site there were 3 bear 6's and they performed exactly the same. Only downside from two of the owners was the porch not reaching the floor, which will probably sway me even more to the Wolf.
Let us know how you get on!

No contest really. Saw both at the weekend side by side. I don't understand the point of the porch on the Bear Lake, seems a waste of material and space to me so that is what swung it I reckon, that and the fact the Wolf is slightly wider and the nice man let me put both kayaks and surfboards down the side and it still left heaps of space.
Thought I was the only one drooling over the Yeomans Catalogue Newbie Campers Oh dear I had planned to do the ironing - oh well tomorrow is another day!
