Hi everyone, long time lurker first time poster :)

We currently have a Gelert Quickpitch DS4 Tent and I am looking for some sort of extension/shelter/porch to attach to it to give us a little more room for storage and a place for sheltered cooking if its raining.

I am looking for advice and ideas on what would fit our tent.
So far I have come up with a few options:

1) A Vango Adventure Tarp
I think I could make this work with our tent even though its not a Vango Tent. It would give us an area of shelter outside of the tent for cooking if the weathers bad but wouldnt provide anywhere secure to store things.

2) Windbreak with canopy
This may also work and has the added benefit of having sides. I would position this round one of the two doors on our tent.

3) Modify an existing extension designed for another tent which gives us storage, shelter and a cooking area.

Some may say just buy a different tent but we havent had this one long and havent been away in it yet, first use will be at the start of August

So ayone have any ideas?

Thanks
Rich

Firstly welcome to the madhouse, the tent you have is not huge and if I read the specs correctly is 1.53m high, the hight is something you would have to consider carefully it you were going to modify a canopy designed for another tent, you would need to think about how you were going to attach it without putting stress on your tent or leaving gaps that can allow the wind to whip in if the weather isnt too good.

My personal preference would be for a tarp to give you some shelter from sun and a reasonable amount of rain (obviously in overly windy conditions you would have to take it down), combine it with a windbreak for extra shelter for the cooking area. If you are worried about leaving stuff outside just stick it in the car. As far as the cooker goes mine has lived outside the tent on many occasions and never come to any harm but some folk stick a bbq cover over them when not in use.

Thats just my opinion anyway, sure someone else will be along shortly to offer a different one.

I have a windbreak with canopy and have found it to be excellent. We set the stove up under it to cook and also sit under it when we eat.
LAst year we were sheltering under it in the pouring rain having a Chinese takeaway! Everyone else on site must have thought we were mad but we stayed nice and dry.

I got mine from Aldi or Lidl (never remember which !) and I think it cost about £8 - I was so impressed that I bought another one and now have 2!

Thanks for the replies,

Paper Clip - Your right about the height of our tent. I think the Tarp has an elasticated edge which makes it fit to the shape of the tent and is then held down with guys.

Helen I think I read another post of yours on the lidl shelter which is what lead me to the one on ebay. The trouble with lidl/aldi is the specials arent available for long, otherwise I would be off to lidl :)

Another thought which has come to mind is one of those Popup beach shelters positioned opposite one of the tent doors with a small tarp between the beach shelter and our tent as a roof. I have seen one which has a zip up door on the front too.

If they could be relied on to be waterproof that would tick all of the boxes for extra storage, cooking shelter and maybe if it was very waterproof somewhere for us to put the electric hookup and electric coolbox overnight.

Any more ideas welcome :)
