Hi

We're thinking of changing our tent and have been looking at the Outwell Salinas L. There aren't any reviews on it yet so just wondered if there's anyone out there that's got one that could comment on it?

One thing in particular that we noticed is the overall length is stated as being 570 cm but, if you add up the length of the bedroom and living areas, it only comes to 545 cm. In fact, the same thing is the case for all the Outwell tent plans - does the overall length include guy lines?

We're only a family of 3 but are looking for a medium size tent so that we have plenty of living space for longer camping trips without having something that is too bulky/ takes too long to pitch. Would be very happy to hear of any other suggestions that people may have. We currently have a Vango Breckenridge 600 but have always known that it was really too big for what we needed and have finally decided to downsize a bit.

Its a good looking tent, It will be 570 as the bedroom pods are attached to the fly outer and therefore there is a gap at the back between the fly and pods.

Its like an updated version of My Oakland XL, It's a shame the windows arent as big as the oaklands though

Hi Tentaholic

They have the Salinas L up at Camping World in Frensham, Surrey if that's anywhere near you? I found it very useful to see the tents ' in the flesh' when I was choosing a new tent recently (Glendale 5). We saw the Salinas L with the awning which was very spacious

Hi

Thanks for the helpful replies.

Phil+ Shirl - you've got me looking at the Oakland XL as well now. It's slightly more compact, which would suit us better but I'm quite hooked on the 'rain safe' side door which the Oakland doesn't have (unless we add the extention). I do like the bigger windows, though. Why is it that the more choice there is, the less easy it is to make a decision?

Boofadog - Frensham isn't too far away and I'm due to go somewhere near there this afternoon. I might try and leave home earlier so I can pop into camping world. I agree that it's good to see them 'in the flesh'. Thanks for the link. Maybe I should consider the Glendale 5 too ..... (!!!)

Will post an update if we manage to make a decision.

We are a family of 4 and wanted something roomy without being too big. The Glendale 5 was right next to the Salinas L with awning at Frensham and comes up a little shorter. It has nice big windows like an Oakland too and a built in porch area but no rain safe door. Good luck choosing and let us know how you get on

Still haven't decided on which tent to get.... went to Camping World at the weekend and saw lots of possibilities. Have decided that the Salinas L + porch extension is a bit too big for us, so that one's out the equation - although it is a lovely looking tent.

Current front runners (both Outwell) are the Glendale 5 or Florida 5. I really like the fully open porch area, so am favouring the Florida 5 but haven't seen it pitched. The main problem is that the pack size is no smaller or lighter than our current tent and the whole point of this purchase was to downsize!!! It is a better design/ layout and smaller footprint, though - so am trying to justify it on that basis!!

Does anyone with a Florida 5 know if the porch is big enough to cook under in the rain (and stay dry) or is the front extension necessary for that? Sorry to ask more questions.

Dont have the Florida but if you look at my extension on the reviews I have plenty of room to cook in, the florida 5 front canopy is the same depth as my extension at 150cm and about 100cm wider. may give you some perspective.
So much for downsizing heh
